Belt tensioner on A/C compressor mount

Hello,

I am trying to find a replacement belt tensioner bolt for our A/C compressor mount.

Can't find it in Cummins parts nor can I find a manufacture's name on the mount.

The threaded rod had seized and I broke the nut off the top. The adjustment threaded rod won't move and I've used every trick I know to get it out.

I was hoping that someone would recognize this part and point me in the right direction to a replacement.

I might be wrong, but I think this may be a chassis part. If so, you're looking at Freightliner or Spartan.

Thanks for the help. Anyone know the official name of this bolt? That might help in searching it out.

You could go to a hardware store and pick up a piece of all thread if it's standard size. If it's metric you might have to look online but I bet it can be found. You would have to cut it to size but that's not very difficult.

You could try and soak the tensioner in a penetrating solution (1/2 A/T fluid and 1/2 acetone). If you can get it apart, run a tap through the threads and weld a nut on the rod. If using new All Thread, use a grade 8.

It used to be a belt adjuster as most of the tensioners are either tools or spring loaded idlers

Hello,
Did you ever find a replacement for the adjuster in the photo?
I'm getting ready to change my belts and the first step is to loosen this adjuster on the air conditioner so I can remove the belt.
Any thing you can suggest to help loosen the adjuster?
Thanks.

Clean the bolts with a wire brush. Soak the adjustment bolt with some liquid penetrant and Loosen the lock nut and the nut attaching the idler wheel. Then, go back / forth with a 6 point socket on a breaker bar to break any stiction. Once the penetrant is in the threads, all should be good to loosen it fully with an air ratchet.

If for some reason it's really stuck, you might need to heat it with a torch. Certainly protecting anything around it from the heat / flame. But that shouldn't be necessary.

Most of the time the bolt gets stripped when one of the mentioned nuts aren't loosened first.

If it gets mangled like the one in the above pic, weld a nut on the end if the threads are still good or get a new bolt after heating the nut with a torch to get the old stuck one out.

Thanks I got it!

Finally tracked down the part. It is if fact a Spartan part, however, I was told that the actual bolt is only available as the whole kit, and that was $150 bucks. Really? Anyway thanks to your suggestions I went back at it with a 24 hour PB blaster soaking and was able to remove the broken bolt. I ran a 5/16" tap and put a new 5/16" bolt on it and put the thing back together.
