Block heater?

Does the block heater run off of 110 electricity? I know mine is plugged into an outlet but want to be sure. I don't have the coach plugged in and was wondering about just running an extension cord from the house to it. We have been getting in the mid 20"s at night. Not sure if I need to even plug it in.

Yes, works off 110v. You would normally only plug it
in several hours before you plan to start in cold weather.
The lower the temps, the longer the time.
I've been told most draw about 7000watts.

You may well have a breaker that needs to be turned on to activate the block heater. Otherwise you would be using a bit of electricity for no reason in the summer months.

At least that is how my Eagle is configured.

My coach does have a breaker in the main panel for the block heater, I believe it is a 15 amp breaker so it would pull about 1800 watts. The heater itself is contolled by a 12 volt switch on the front dash. The switch sends a signal to a 12/120 volt relay that will start the block heater. There is an outlet in the engine bay the the block heater plugs into. Mine is currently unplugged. If you don't want to power the entire coach you can just plug in the block heater. If you are not planning on going anywhere you don't have to plug in the block heater. I have never used mine and started the coach in pretty cold weather.

macandphyl no block heater uses 7000 watts,most immersion heaters are 750 to 1500 some big circulating heaters might be 2500..but in my 40 yrs of being a mechanic,,never seen a 7000. my 5.9 cummins tow trucks always started 30 below . i uses 0-40 synthetic oil. dual 1200 watt batterys. after 30 below i would plug them in.easier on them.The 92 Tow Truck had 1 million 3 hundred on it when sold it in 07..its still running today. my old ITASCA DP MH also has a 5.9 with 0-40 oil. but not even attempting to start it in winter,unless its above 0 ,just to keep things circulating.it has 70,000 on it, will outlast me !

Pretty sure you are talking Celsius, not Fahrenheit. Huge difference.

NOPE. WHEN I SAY 30 BELOW.. I MEAN 30 BELOW. I HAVE NEVER SWITCHED. MY 47 Merc is MPH MY 90 Nissan truck is MPH WIFES 05 GMC Envoy has both on speedo. the motorhome is USA made.so its MPH I HATE the Metric system. waste of taxpayers money.

Ok.... my bad. Saw you are from Canada and just assumed. Somehow my block heater got unplugged at the block. Saw the cord hanging down underneath the motor the other day. Just need to craw under motor and find where it goes.

While you don't need to have it plugged in till you plan on starting. I usually just leave it on overnight if moving the next day. I would hook everything up and see if it is working before you need it.
One thing no one mentioned about cold weather starts is to not idle on low idle when the engine is below normal operating temperature. Once it starts and the oil preshure comes up bump it to fast idle. This helps prevent unburned fuel from washing down the cylinder walls and fuel dilution of the oil.
