Driving home on the highway today in the rain, I suddenly lost acceleration with the pedal and the Check Engine Light came on. I had to engage the cruise control so the coach wouldn't stop altogether. After about a half hour, the rain stopped and the check engine light went out and the accelerator pedal worked again. Not sure if there was any connection between the rain and my problem.
Got home and the diagnostics said that is was the Idle Validation Switch. Has anyone else had this problem?

My check engine light came on today while driving in the rain down 95 thru Maryland. Then a few minutes later the "diesel particulate filter" light came on... I knew the camp ground was about 10 miles away so I drove about 50 mph and continued and the "diesel particulate filter" light began to flash. I'm parked at the camp site now and will find out tomorrow whether or not it's still on. But I suppose I have to have it checked out. Does anyone know what that means?
Ed

I'm curious about what cruise control could have done to keep you going. Usually a Check light results in one of three actions by the ECM:
1. No action - it's just a warning. Low coolant would be an example.
2. Limp mode - power is severely reduced but keeps on running. Engine nearing over temp condition is an example.
3. Shutdown

Hi Ed,
The flashing diesel particulate filter means you may need to do a standing regeneration. For whatever reason the normal regeneration did not work/finish. There should be documentation, with your coach, to tell you how to do this. The documentation will be from Cummins.

Thanks Gary;
I had Freightliner on the phone and they walked me through the process to do the "parked regeneration"... we attempted it 4 times and could not get the engine to rev up rpms at all. They are going to tow me in and work on it at their facility. However, I just noticed that these instructions say to "disconnect PTO power devices before starting this process"... what are PTO Power devices?
Thanks
Ed

Hi Ed,
PTO power devices are (my definition) devices that the engine connects to and drives. This would be the A/C and coach drive train (tranny in neutral and A/C off). I also do not know if there are other devices your engine may be attached to.

SRC - providing information on coach model, year, power train configuration, etc. will help to understand your problem. Without this it is nearly impossible to respond to your question.
You might consider putting this information in your signature then you don't have to type it in each time.

PTO = Power Take Off and refers to things powered other than by the main drive shaft. In some industrial applications, e.g. construction equipment, there may be major pieces of gear that derive power from the engine. Think of the hydraulic pumps on a big crane or dozer, for example. Engines built for those applications have front or rear output shafts designed to drive auxiliary equipment.
You don't really have to worry much about the belt driven stuff (alternator, a/c, etc) on the coach, but you should turn off anything that has an off switch.
