Cummins hard to start
Started fine a few weeks ago, now takes 4 or 5 times turning on key waiting till it says ok then turns over fine, batteries good, any ideas then finally starts
Ideas????????

Some additional clarity for your question would be useful for forum to provide some answers. Are you saying that your engine must complete the start-up sequence (e.g. engine check completed, grid heater warm-up completed, etc.) 4-5 times before you can start cranking your engine? Do all of the start-up sequencing "lights" go off before cranking the engine?

Is it freezing weather there ?
Did you buy fuel recently or when the weather was warmer ?
Are you starting it just to start it ?
If your fuel is from warmer times, add some anti gell and get it run thru the system.
If your starting it to start it and not use it, leave it off. Your just wearing stuff out.

We always add fuel anti gel coming from colder weather, also yes on the 4-5xs of starting sequence and all lights go off then I try to start, with about 15-20 seconds of turning engine over each time. Never before this has happened it always started after the first sequence and all lights go off. Always start for going on a trip of exercise trip minimum trip 20 miles. Last time to purchase fuel was about 450 miles before and even noticed right before we purchased fuel it took 3-4 attempts to start right after refueling when engine was still warm
Cummings engine 400hp R568-AA2-003 if that helps

We have had this newmar coach for 5 years now and 40,000 + miles on it so not new to us. I just know this is not normal and not sure if this would be an issue with glo-plugs or fuel delivery problem

Oh and weather is at 60 degrees so should not have an issue of starting

The fuel filter might be working. You might try a filter & separator change.

Put a new lift pump 3 years ago I hope it’s not bad this quick

Filter was done about 1500-2000 miles ago so it could be clogged or filled with water I’ll check it out, we carry 3-4 at all times

I have torn a lift pump apart and there isn't anything in it to go bad other than the gasket between the pump portion and the motor. All it will do then is leak for 30-45 seconds or so

From your first post it is the preheater that has failed or isn't getting proper voltage.

My experience with the same symptoms turned out to be a leaking fuel fitting at the input to the lift pump. Somehow the rt angle hose fitting into the FP had rotated just enough to cause a tiny leak. No fuel on the ground under the coach, but it was apparently a big enough leak to allow air into the line which caused the fuel to drain back towards the tank. Had to crank for a while before the engine would fire up, hot or cold.
