Cummins 325hp?
I'm not sure if I am posting this in the correct area, but want to ask the Cummins experts a question. I'm considering a Super C diesel (36') double slide rv, built on an international durastar chassis. That being said, I wanted you opinion if the 325hp Cummins engine would be adequate power for this vehicle. The 325 is coupled with an Allison 3000 transmission. No other engine is offered.
Thoughts?
Again, sorry if this isn't the correct location in the forum to post this question.

I would think so.... these diesel engines pump out a lot of torque... it might not be a speed demon, but more than enough power to move that 36 foot unit nicely.

The figure of merit for motorhome power is 100 lbs per HP, so if that rig grosses 32k lbs or a bit less, it should be fine. Not fast, but fine. For best results, estimate the combined loaded weight of the motorhome plus whatever you will tow.

The GVRW is listed at 25,999. So it sounds like the engine will be adequate but not optimal? Is that correct?

I can tell you my experience. I have an 07 HR neptune with a Cummins ISB 325hp and 610 ft lbs torque motor. It has an allison 2500 6 speed tranny. My gvwr is 27,500# and gcwr is 33,000#. When my coach was stock it did fairly well you just have to be prepared for hills and run it hard. Last year I added a Banks kit and it really made a difference. I run it on setting 3 of 5 and climb hills and cruise much easier than before.
You won't have any problems going, just be prepared to run it and you'll be fine. If you're looking at the newer 6.7 motor, you'll have more torque than mine stock and will be better off. Hopefully I've helped and not confused you.

The literature states it is a Cummins 325hp engine, Allison 3000 6 speed tranny w 750 ft lbs of torque. Maybe so maybe not so bad?

Tillerman, I think you'll be fine with that power and weight. Also, with the 3000 tranny you most likely could go to cummins and they can "turn up" the engine to 350 hp and 800 torque. But assimilating with my coach, I really think you'll be fine. You will not set any land speed records, but you definitely won't be the slowest up the hills either. Of course that's my 2 cents. Other people may think differently.

Plenty of power unless you plan on drag racing with it. You will get to your destination about fifteen minutes behind your buddy with 500 horses.
