Cummins 400 ISL engine won't accelerate -

2004 Monaco Dynasty 400 Cummings ISL engine idles fine but won't run when acceleration -- just dies back to idle -- can barely touch accelerator and get some acceleration sometimes only to die again. MotorHome has old fuel and has been recycled through filter and put back in and changed both Fuel Filter and Water Seperator and Algie chemical put in fuel tank.

Check the, about 3" pipes, and hoses that come from turbocharger to the charge air cooler core, next to radatior, and then back to the engine.

Any ripped or loose hose will cause your problem.

Are you getting any boost when you try to accelerate?

Exhaust looks like ?

First Guess - is no fuel - clogged - drain and try with fresh.

Second thought - is that you may have a twisted/or caused a non seated o-ring/seal on a filter - allowing air to get to the system.

This can happen when working to try to correct a problem in the fuel system - you get in a hurry and forget to be diligent making sure everything is Right. - Just a guess or two.

Let us Know,

Let us Know,

Thanks -- filters were primed on installation - and after, read in manuel to NOT PRIME FILTER -- don't know if this could make a difference or not -- I've never not primed a filter when installing on other vehicles.

It’s probably just mad at you because you called it a Cummings instead of its proper name, Cummins. [emoji6]

Did you check the O rings the when you put the filters in - sure sounds like air is getting into the fuel line causing it to die out.

Only takes a small grain of sand to let just a little air in.

Can you see any fuel moisture any where?

Where are you located? Hilton Head? or on the road.

Keep us informed will be interested to know what the issue is.

Best of Luck,

Try this
while in park with your cruise on press the set button and see if the rpms go up, could be a bad throttle position switch on the pedal..

We left Florida a few days ago after being there for 5 months. I started MH once a month. When we left all was good, acceleration was good and ran for a few hours at 66 and sometimes 70mph. When we got near Jacksonville there was a accident and was at stop and go situation. When accelerating it wasn't taking off as usual. It was very slow to speed up with pedal to floor. Did this many times. When we were passed accident it was very slow to pick up speed to 66mph but ran good at high speed but wanting to pass acceleration was slow.I stopped to fuel up and when I left same thing. Slow to pickup speed. Stopped at Walmart for the night, looked all over for fuel leak or something obvious but all looked good. Thought of changing fuel filter but where I was parked wasn't good location to do that. I shut down house batteries and chassis batteries for 5 minutes. Turned all back on and waited till morning to see results. If same was going to change filters. Started off and all normal and was all good for the remainder of 2 days. Pickup speed as normal and got up the Pennsylvania hills no problems.
Was it a computer glitch or the variable fins of turbo stuck and released after cooling ???????
For right now a mistery but if it stays as it is I'm happy with it

glad you're making it - getting close to getting mine with Fuel Problem showing up as problem. Have blown out fuel line, recycled and cleaned fuel in tank, changed fileters and seems to be doing better however did have couple of stalls. Think I've learned after draining filters to turn ignition on and off several times to allow fuel to pressure ized with lift pump. Back to Road Test next week --

Fyi: Follow up on fuel flow problem

As of today 9/15/19 I sincerely hope to have solved the fuel problem on my Cummins 400 ISL engine after being towed to Cummins in Savannah Ga and diagnosed with fuel flow problem and other guessed at problems and $8000.00 diagnosing and replacing High Pressure Fuel Pump and telling me it was fixed. Drove it 60 miles back to Hilton Head with a few stumbles and no water temp gauge working. Called them and was told probably a little trash in fuel should clear up and not there fault or much concern about temp gauge. -- This was all the last week of May 2019. After three months at Hilton Head mandantory evacuation was ordered for hurricane and I left Thursday Sept.5,19 and had terrible engine stumbling and made it about 30 miles to A-1 Towing and Service in Ridgeland SC who started diagnostic the next day and off and on eliminating flow areas were led to restriction in tank. Removing or sliding tank out and removing pick up tube more testing done with tube being examinied and cleaned put back in and more restriction and air testing led back to tank problem, so removed again and looking at pick up tube, discovered by measuring tube it was resting flat on bottom of tank. Cut off 1 inch of tube and replaced and to amazement fuel flowed great. On road test up to 85mph and 20 or so miles "no problem" ran great. Another $2000.00 and wondering if the Cummings Engine folks diagnostic work and repairs were even needed after this. I hope this is the end of this story, plan to not sit idle and do a little driving soon to see. Also the wire left off my temp. sending unit was found and replaced and temp gauge back working.
