Just a reminder that if you are running a Cummins ISC engine, 2001 or newer, the 10 year old recall campaign for the engine compressor expires June 30th. Call Cummins with your engine serial number to see if your engine is included in this campaign.

It's approximately a $2400 job, totally covered by Cummins.

SERVICE BRAKES, AIR:SUPPLY:COMPRESSOR
NHTSA Campaign No. 01E011000

Defect Summary:EQUIPMENT DESCRIPTION: ENGINES BUILT BETWEEN JUNE 1, 1999, AND JANUARY 10, 2001, AND HAVE ENGINE SERIAL NUMBER RANGE OF 45878623 TO 46066483. THE INTERNAL FRONT BUSHING CAN SPIN, CAUSING DAMAGE TO THE AIR COMPRESSOR, AND POSSIBLY TO THE SPINDLE DRIVE AT THE REAR FACE OF THE AIR COMPRESSOR WHICH IS USED TO PROVIDE POWER TO THE VEHICLE HYDRAULIC PUMP. FAILURE OF THE AIR COMPRESSOR'S SPINDLE DRIVE COULD LEAD TO LOSS OF POWER ASSIST IF THE HYDRAULIC PUMP CEASES TO OPERATE.

Consequence Summary:WITHOUT POWER ASSIST, THE VEHICLE BECOMES VERY DIFFICULT TO TURN AND COULD POSSIBLY RESULT IN A VEHICLE CRASH.

Corrective Summary:CUMMINS IS INSTRUCTING ITS CUSTOMERS TO CONTACT AUTHORIZED DEALERS TO HAVE THEIR VEHICLE REPAIRED FREE OF CHARGE. OWNER NOTIFICATION BEGAN MAY 10, 2001. OWNERS WHO TAKE THEIR VEHICLES TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER ON AN AGREED UPON SERVICE DATE AND DO NOT RECEIVE THE FREE REMEDY WITHIN A REASONABLE TIME SHOULD CONTACT CUMMINS CUSTOMER ASSISTANT CENTER AT 1-800-343-7357.

Where do I find the engine number? I have only had my coach for a little over a year...

According to the text, it would be a 2001 or OLDER engine. My '03 MH (mfg date May 02, Spartan chassis mfg date 04032002, has engine s/n 46195794 which is later than those included.

Hi All, Thanks to the OP (Don2346) about this Recall Campaign. My 2001 Dynasty falls within this recall engine serial number (45988760 ISC 8.3) I just called Cummins and was told my engine was not affected even though it was in the serial # range. It seems according to the Customer Service Rep. that not all engines in the range are affected.
Started to get worried. Enough to do.

If my engine does need warranty work done is there anything else I should have Cummins do while they have my motorhome like upgrade the software, check the air dryer, etc... My serial number is within the range listed so I'm going to call them tomorrow.

Just talked to Cummins and my engine is not part of the recall and my serial number is within the range listed.

I called them. My SN falls in the recall range.
All I got was denial and the run around.
The guy would not even tell were the SN was located.
