It's true that the DPF was on engines built after the end of '06. I was told by a Cummins rep at a big rally that Cummins had accumulated EPS "credits" and had decided to spend them by selling the ISM for motorhome service without a DPF system until production ended at the end of '09. I had no direct knowledge of this other that the conversation with this Cummins rep.

Any body here with an ISM equipped with a DPF system?

Steve, do you know if a 2000 signature with the 500 ism is subject to the egr issues you speak of? I'm buying one next week with 90k on the clock and good maintenance records.

No worries. The ISM did not get an EGR until the end of '02. It also had a variable waste gate turbo instead of the more complex and trouble prone VG turbo. You will notice that the valve cover is red. When the fuel system was changed to incorporate the EGR the valve cover was changed to black.Cummins mechanics called the non EGR engines "red top".

You'll love that engine. It's great in a motorhome.
