Cummins ISX "600"

There has been extensive writings about owner's love/hate relationship and associated expenses with the ISX 650.

I also remember vaguely that it had something to do with the "dual Overhead..." something? I am a total non-tech.

My reason for this thread is that I am about to pull-the-trigger (with a very shaky hand) on the purchase of a 2007 Monaco with an ISX 600. NOT a 650.

Any thoughts and or warnings???

Thanks

He PM'D me so I answered him in a return PM.
The 600 seems to have fewer problems than the 650 in the 2007 EPA models. The 2010 EPA MODEL single OHC don't seem to have the problems that the double OHC 2007 models did.

Keep in mind those years all had the ceramic plungers that are notorious to failure in the injection pumps. If it has been updated I would feel better, if its all stock untouched I'd be concerned.

Dropped Valve ISX650 Cummins - Engines - FMCA Motorhome Forums

Keep in mind the HP is just HP, not a different design engine, still the same components that failed on one can fail on another. The link above cost this poor guy a small fortune.

My milage experience has been a little better, about 6.4 mpg over 27000 miles. It also uses DEF, to the tune of about 1 gallon per 27 gallons of fuel, or about 4.2% of the gallons of diesel used on my latest 1500 mile drive.

Not true, the 650 has different ECM programming, turbo, torque converter and maybe cams than the 600 since the injectors are controlled by one of the cams on the DOHC ISX. Plus Cummins has come out with new parts and programming for the '07 engine to, hopefully, prevent it from happening again. Doesn't help those that already have that engine till it's rebuilt like mine was last year for the second time in 45,000 miles.
My mileage is running 7.6 over 45,000 miles.
