In the early 90's I had a fleet of OTR tractors with the M-11 and had excellent experience with them. 7.5 to 8.5 MPG grossing out at 80,000 pounds on routes in the south west was the norm. You should have all the power and torque you need. Regular and appropriate routine maintenance is all that engine should require.

Travelgirl,

Fleetman's comments are right on point. The M11 and it's parent the L10 have been around in the trucking industry for a long time.

I think it's extremely well suited to service in a motorhome with a high power to weight ratio and excellent fuel economy. Diesel techs love it because it is easy to work on.

I have an ISM which is the M11 with the Cummins interact system electronic controls. i have driven it about 40,000 miles over the last 4 years and have recorded 7.9 mpg with a coach/toad combo weighing about 45,000 lbs. I would not trade engines for any other in the marketplace.

Keep up the maintenance & it won't let you down.

I have an ISB so no direct experience with the M-11, but an oil analysis can tell you a lot about any diesel engine. Blackstone does them for $25. To put your mind to rest about the condition of your engine get an analysis.
