Has anyone tried the TS Performance MP-8 Performance chip on their Cummins? Its advertised to be an on-the-fly adjuster boosting HP by up to 30% with a slight fuel savings. Any Comments out there?

We carry and install them frequently...very good gains on the Cummins and Cat engines! However, I wouldn't recommend installing without doing an AeroTurbine muffler and AFE air intake, and a pyrometer gauge if none already, obviously for heat related reasons.

So you agree that along with the 30 percent HP increase, it will also get better fuel mileage?

Yeah,
Your foot is going to be into it less to reach speed and maintain speed, less downshifting etc. so you will pick up a little mileage as long as you drive it conservatively. Again I will recommend the AeroTurbine muffler and AFE intake in conjunction if you are looking for a respectable mileage gain. Most customers have been reporting back about a 1.5-3 MPG increase with this setup

Hey Jon:
Thanks for the quick reply. I'm a bit sketchy about the muffler and intake options...wouldnt just adding the pyrometer be sufficient...so as not to mess with warranty issues with after-market installs. The TS Performance website's install manual states that it can be removed without detection...Your thoughts/experience there??? 'Cause this is a fairly new coach and the engine only has about 8,000 miles so far.
Thanks, Best,
Dave Y.

Yeah, it will work just fine...you're just not going to take full advantage of it unless you make the necessary air flow modifications. Is your coach DPF (Diesel Particulate Filter) equipped?

And they are correct about it not being detected, TS's modules do not leave a "footprint" in the ECM so if it is removed, you won't have any issues when you take it in for warranty repair.

Jon: Lucky Me! I picked a 2008 HR with the 330 ISC Cummins which DOES NOT have the particulate filter. That was critical to my choice. It must have been early production 08 with an 07 engine. I looked at your website...you are about 500 clicks from me or I'd motor over for some testing. Your Banks package sounds interesting. I'll email you with some questions. We're headed up to McCall and Cour d'Alene this summer so we might wanna make a route change!
Thanks,
dy

Basic engineering an thermodynamics will not allow you to get a 30% increase in fuel economy. In order to get more power, you have to add more fuel and more air. With optimization of the boost and fuelin, you might get a small gain in fuel economy, but you do not buy a chip for increased fuel economy.
