Cummins Proprietary Codes?
We have a 2010 Winnebago Journey 39N. It has a Cummins ISB 340 HP. I was actually picking the coach up from a FL shop after having the dash AC fixed (long sad story) but when I cranked up, I got the dreaded Check Engine Light. Well, the light went out after a few moments but as I drove it home, I got the light back a few times and it would stay on for a few minutes, then go out. Gauges indicating normal, performance seeming normal. We took the coach out for a weekend to a park about 25 miles away and got the light a few time on the way there, then oddly enough, not at all all the way home. hmmm. Get her cleaned out and ready to store for a while but decide to go fill the LP tank. Light back again, on and off. Decide I better ger get it looked at before "Check Engine" become "Stop Engine". I go to a shop that deals primarily with RV's / MH's and they read the code and tell me it is a "General Turbo" code, 33 occurrences. However, they do not have the software to pinpoint the exact nature of the code because the necessary software is Proprietary to Cummins. Wait, What? I had a choice of a Cummins Shop or another "Authorized" service center that the coach could be moved to so they could diagnose the nature of the code.
I let them move the coach to the "Authorized Shop" and i am now waiting for a call. Has anyone run into this situation before? Proprietary Codes? Or, should I be measuring my legs to see if either (or both) are getting longer!.

No, I sure didn't even think to call the FL hotline. At this point I'm thinking this is a "Cummins" issue, because of what the shop told me. I was thinking that this didn't quite sound right. I've had our MH worked on a few times at the nearest FL Service Center but to be honest, there have been some problems there. That was why I thought I would try a different shop for this CEL. When this shop told me the code was Cummins Proprietary I wondered how some of the diagnostic scanners I have read about can work. We're two weeks in the shop and don't have a diagnosis of the code yet. Yep, technological advances......gotta love em.

Thank you Old Biscuit for that info. I'll figure out a way to save that link for reference. Interesting though that the shop I took the coach to said they downloaded the code. They didn't tell me what the code was (and I didn't ask....doh!) but they said it was one code with 33 occurrences BUT that it was a "General Turbo Code". I looked over the codes in the link and I didn't see "Turbo" on it (I was looking at ISB Truck Applications, Non Chrysler or Dodge). SO, for now, the coach has been moved to a different shop associated with the first shop that I am told has the Proprietary Software to interpret whatever code my ECM is giving to trigger the CEL. I keep hoping it is minor. Normal Gauges, normal performance.
On a side note, we may be in the path of Irma and I sure would like to have the coach if we have to "bug out". I may just pull it from the shop tomorrow. It is Very hard to find RV service in our area.

i have found the FTL hot line very useful, to the point of even telling me exactly where the connector was on the engine to look at that was causing the fault
old biscuit...thanks i just made me another word file of code

Thanks to all for the thoughts and info on this issue. I did get a little more info today and some good news as well from the Cummins Shop the coach it currently at. The "Proprietary Code" that is triggering my CEL is due to a Boost Sensor. That was actually good news to me because I was fearing I would be told that the turbo would have to be replaced. The new Sensor has been ordered. We are in coastal SC so right now we are in the forecast path of Irma, sure to get some degree of impact. So, I am picking up the coach tomorrow and will bring it to the house for stanby or if really really needed, to use to bug-out. Once the storm passes and things get back to normal, I'll take her back to the shop and have the sensor changed out. I will try to find out what code exactly was the ECM showing so I can share with others this "Proprietary Code".
Thanks again to all.

nevernuff All you need to do is register your engine on Cummins Quick serve and it will give you the code definition, parts, explanations of the system and much more and it is free. And the information you get is actually for your engine and not some list off of the internet.
