Just recieved a letter from Cummins informing me that new calibrations are now available for the ISB engine in my '08 Cayman. I'm wondering if this is wide spread. The letter advises me to get in touch with my Cummins service provider who will do the work at no cost. Does anybody know how long this job takes? Will the cover in the bedroom have to come off? And how will engine performance differ after the calibration?

I called my local Cummins dealer and he informed me it would take 1-2 hours to complete the recalibration.

Hi Hooter G

Did your recall letter mentioned any specific ISB engine??? I have the 325HP engine in our 2007 Neptune. So far I have not received a recall letter. Just curious to know.

Thanks in advance to your reply.

Bill

Call Cummins at 800-343-7357 with your engine serial number and they will tell you if it applies to your coach.

Got the letter from my dealer today. It is not classified as a recall, by Cummins. It is an advice and seemes to be ongoing for the ISC/ISL engines. Cummins South says about an hour on the computer.

Thanks for the replies. My letter refers to Cummins ISB-Series engines that are equipped with the CM2150 fuel system. The engine in my coach is the ISB 340. Ithrnk is right, the letter doesn't refer to this as a recall but as "Cummins ISB CM2150 Calibration Campaign 0836." Still sounds like a recall.

It is my understanding that even after you have the service taken care you may, from time to time, get another letter reffering to the same type of thing. As Cummins makes changes and upgrades their engines they will upgrade those already out there. Works for me, seems to be very proactive on their part.

"recall" means a specific legal procedure mandated and overseen by the NHTSA and used only for safety-related issues. Anything else the manufacturer wants to do for ALL the products in the field is done via a Service Campaign, which involves proactively notifying all known owners. A third category of issue is handled by a Service Bulletin, in which only dealers are notified of the potential problem and solution.

Vehicle manufacturers are very careful in their terminology on this sort of thing becasue of the legal ramifications of the word "recall".

I have an ISB 340 in my '08 Allegro Bay FRED. I recieved a recall letter. I haven't taken mine in yet, but it sounds like they'll plug a computer into the ECM & upload new data. (No need to access engine)

I also have a 2007 HR Neptune XL 34' diesel with a Cummins 325 HP. I haven't received any communication from Cummins.

How do you like your Neptune. Have you had any problems? How is the ride?

Hi LRuiz

As of this date I also have not received anything concerning this subject from Cummins or Monaco. So maybe this does not apply to the 325HP engine.

As for your other questions. We do like our unit very much. Not any major problems encountered other the usual maintanence issues. I have had to reseal the roof seams where the front and back shells meet the top roof panel. This is pretty normal since my unit sits out in the sun/ heat and cold of the Santa Ynez CA seasons. Some day I am going to have a RV garage built for the property.

The ride sometimes is a bit rough but for a 4 air bag unit it is typical. I have found the best thing to do on the road is to just slow down a touch and it rides much better. 55-60 mph seems to be the best speed for smoothing out the ride. This also helps in keeping the unit from any radical porpoising. Some time this year I am going to have KONI SHOCKS installed on the unit. I am also going to have the ride height checked. There are other discussion on these two subjects in our forum if you are interested.

But as I said DW and I are happy with the unit and it has met our needs for now. We are not fulltimers yet. We do about two extended trips (2 weeks long) each year and then several weekend camping trips every year. So we are not driving an extensive amount. If and when we move into fulltiming we then may look into purchasing a higher "price point" unit.

Have a good day and all ways drive safely.

Bill

2008 Knight w/ EPA2007 ISC 360 recieved recall about 2 weeks ago indicating new program flash available. I did note one of the symptoms it cures is boost surging. I've noticed excessive turobo boost spikes ocasionally approaching very close to 40 psi on dash gauge. Unsure of rated max boost but 40psi seems high to me.

Had the upgrade done on the ISC 360 today at Cummins South branch in Orlando. In addition to the computer upgrade there was also another campaign (their terminology) for this engine. It required an upgrade kit for the turbo to reposition the oil drain. Spent 4 hours there.
