ROCKY MOUNT, N.C. -- The Cummins Rocky Mount Engine plant achieved a major milestone today when its 3 millionth engine rolled off the assembly line, the Rocky Mount Telegram reported. Engines built at the plant are used in agricultural, construction, automotive, marine and generator applications.
When the first engine was produced in 1983, Cummins Rocky Mount Engine Plant was originally part of a joint venture with CNH Global LLC called Consolidated Diesel Co. The plant reached the 1 million-engine mark in June 1993 and the 2 millionth engine was produced in October 2001, the Telegram reported.
“Reaching this milestone is an incredible accomplishment,” said Ken Anderson, acting plant manager in a prepared statement. “It shows that Cummins is a true leader in the medium-duty engine market. Thanks to the efforts of our hard-working employees, we can be counted on to produce the dependable and fuel-efficient engines demanded by our customers.”
As a result of increased demand for the engines, the plant is adding 210 new people, 25 percent of whom will be full-time workers, the Telegram reported.
