Cummins shop nashville, tn
I had my first experience with diesel problems, 02 winnebago Journey, 5.9, 275 ho Cummins , about 32000 miles on it, just purchased in December 2013. Driving down the road coach lost power and I limped it home at about 25-30 miles per hour since I was close to home had to do two runs to make it up driveway. Anyway, the next day I called Crosspoint Cummins in Nashville and asked if they handled Service Star extended warranties. Brad said they did not like to, but ok. So I had the motorhome towed there, the next morning, Scott called and told me I had a nearly closed Exhaust brake and an exhaust manifold leak and it would be $2600 to fix. I asked what ther warranty people said, and he promptly told me "we don't deal with third parties". I told him what brad said and he said "brad was wrong". Well, I complained and Scott finally said "we recommend Link automotive down the street, the do really good work on RV's. I made arrangements for a tow and asked if the rv would be ready to be picked up that afternoon, he said yes. After getting no where with Cummins, I called and verified the warranty question with Link, and had the coach towed there where they told me that I would be charged an extra couple of hours labor because the Cummins shop did not put everything back together and he couldn't even troubleshoot it until that was done. Does Cummins shops not like working on RV's? Links was very good about calling the warranty people and getting everything lined up however, there bill was $3600 for the same thing plus a new manifold and lift pump, warranty agreed to pat $476.00 can you believe that? Needless to say, cancelling the warranty and getting $3400 back so will almost break even.
Will a exhaust brake being nearly closed cause such an incredible loss of power? Link automotive said that is what probably also warped the exhaust manifold. BTW, warranty was so low because they said problems were due to corrosion and they didn't cover that. I was stupid by not looking under the rv to see this, but asked if it was a Kentucky vehicle (where I bought it) and was told that it had always been in Kentucky, but later found most of its life's was in Ohio. Had to vent, any advice much appreciated, first diesel, first motorhome.
