I have seen this listed at 250 hp, 260 hp, 275 hp, and 300 hp. I have the 275 and would like to know if it can be bumped to 300 or more without risking the engine. how expensive, how difficult, is it worth it?

IIrc going back to when we hot roded them in pick up's a injector change would help them out a bit.
Give these folks a call Massdiesel Contact Info
ask for Scott. I've had work done there on 4X4's they are real good. They will give you the right info and a good price on what you need.

Sometimes the change is just a re-program of the ECM, and sometimes there are beefed up mechanical components. I'm not sure on the difference between the 275 and the 300, and from what i understand the pick-up 5.9L is not the same as the motorhome 5.9L.
I have the 370 hp ISL and it was also offered as 400 hp that same year. The difference is programming (different power curve), but Cummins say the ECM has to be replaced to do it and they want over $2000 just for the part. Wasn't worth it to me, even though I would love to have another 30 hp when climbing long grades.

Many times in MH applications the limit is the allowable input torque of the Allison transmission. I understand the Allison isn't very forgiving of input torques substantially higher than its rating.

IGH,
You might look at the BANKS aftermarket turbos. They offer a number of kits to several different motors, both gas and diesel. BANKS.COM is the website.
Regards.

Banks can only give you 280 HP at the rear wheel.

I believe the Allison 4000 has a torque limit of 3000lbs. Not going to get close to that. It's the axle rating that you have to be careful about

According to this Allison publication, input torque limits for the Truck/RV transmissions range from 520 lb-ft to 1850 lb-ft. My point is that it's worth checking with Allison for your transmission's specific rating.

Power train torque limit is factory set by Cummins on a ISM at 3000lbs.

I would do nothing without consulting Cummins and Allison. If you make a modification make sure the ECM isn't programmed to limit torque and HP. You don't say what year your ISB engine is. For a few years around 2000 the ISB had a block made in Brazil with a 53 on it and several percent of them developed a cracked block that leaked coolant. You can tell if you have that block by looking under your MH and looking at the underside of the engine. You can't miss it. If you see the 53 don't even think about increasing the power since stress on the block contributes to cracking. If you have a 53 block your chances of never having a problem are very good. BTW I have a 53 block, 260 HP ISB with no problems, so far.

When was the last time you seen a report of a 53 block cracking?
I have seen 0 reported in the last 9 years on any of the RV forums I go to.
All those 53 engines are now 12-13 years old. And probably have already cracked or they are not going to crack if they haven't by now.
About all the ones that did crack were mounted in a Dodge truck where the mounting points were in a different location that put more stress on the area that cracks then the mounting point in a DP.

My OEM 275 HP 660 ft lb torque with Allison MH3060 6 speed and 53 block, has been running the Banks PowerPack kit for over 6 plus years with no problem.
I love the extra power from the stop lights and on the long hills.
By the way the Banks PowerPack is to much power for a ISB with the Allison 5 speed transmission.
And is made only for the 1998-2003
Freightliner chassis with either the Allison MD3060 or MD3066 auto trans*

My 2000 5.9 ISB 24v 53 block blew last year at 54000. $13K for rebuild.

What is really the difference between a 2000 year model 5.9L that was mounted in a motorhome and a pickup truck?
