I bought a Fumoto drain valve for our 98 DSDP w/Cummins C8.3. It drain plug threads are 18mm too. I bought the Fumoto, part# F-104N, from a co called Fleetpride @ 800-275-0274 for under $38 shipped to the door. The "N" in the part# has a nipple so as to attach a hose to it.

Add up the cost of the filters and oil and you're well on your way to $200.

Thanks, that's good to know. I hope speedco shops spring up all over.

Anyone know which size plug I would need to replace the original plug in the ISL 400?
I could take the original out and measure it, but something tells me that this might not be the way to go

A Fumoto valve for a ISL 400 is an 18mm-1.5. A quick call to cummins can verify what size you need.

I e-mailed Lubrication Specialists. Here is their answer from Greg:
According to the chart the ISL takes the F104.
I also e-mailed Cummins asking for their advice and/or recommendation. Here is their reply:
Cummins will not warrant failures to the engine if the failure was caused by the use of parts and products not approved by Cummins. Use of Aftermarket products is by customer choice and Cummins neither approves or disapproves the use of these products. Should a Cummins engine be progressively damaged as a result of the use of an aftermarket product, the expense of an engine repair will not be a Cummins responsibility. Customers assume all responsibility for the use of aftermarket products that are added to, or used in conjunction with a Cummins engine.
I don't see the Fumoto drain valve as being especially high-tech so I am probably prepared to take the risk.
Thanks again all

I use one like the PNW that I got here.
Quick Changer Drain Hose Assembly - Small @ Unique Truck Equipment Inc
Mine is exactly like the ones I used to get from Fram. I didn't like the FUMOTO because of the size and projection. We travel a lot on gravel.

re: oil disposal. There are some automotive repair shops that use used motor oil in a special furnace to heat their large buildings. Those near me gladly accept used oil. My favorite shop says they heat all winter for nothing.

I have a valve and ask Frightliner to install last oil change and refused on liability issues. Said valves are not 100% fail proof as are a plug.

I ran a fleet of local, regional and OTR trucks, mostly Cummins powered, ALL equipped with Fumoto oil drain valves for ease of maintenance and NEVER had a problem with either the valves or Cummins whenever we had warranty work done. However, considering the law suit happy age we live in, I can appreciate the stand Cummins feels they must take.
