I found a gray (app. 1-1/2") round plug with a twist lock cap with a thin wire holding the cap to the plug. it looks like 4 or 5 wires going into it and it is under the dash to the left of the steering wheel. could this be what i am looking for?

Yes, it is one of the two on the coach. There should also be one in the engine compartment. Ours is next to the radiator coolant reserve tank, below the main off switch. It is a Cummins plug (a 9 pin deutsch connector), not the automotive ODB2 style. Cummins software is needed to make changes too.
