On our last trip it was 85 or so outside
nice flat east Texas terrain, 65 mph with cruise on
the temp reading got my attention when the dash gauge jumped to 3/4 hot
so i scrolled through the actual temps using the dash screen and watched my water temps go from 209- 185ish back to 209 -185ish
i have searched the cummins site and the books and can find no mention of a suggested temp i should be running at
or am i normal

You don't say what year or which engine you have, but on my 350 ISC (2003) I run 180-204. The hydraulic fan kicks in at 204 and brings it back down to 195 or so if we are climbing a grade or it is running hot outside. Generally, it runs about 180-185 unless it is 85 or hotter outside. The transmission stays around 180 unless we on on a downgrade when it will go up some but I've never seen it over 200.

robb
its an isc 360
pusher,
i was curious about temps, it wasnt working to hard and the temps really shot up before they cooled down, only to cycle back up.
i guess the fan clutch only has one point of engagement, FULL ON or FULL OFF
i think my 6.0 ford spoiled me, the fan would spin vary speed really well and kept us cool in the hottest times

The thermostat does not open until @ 185 degrees and is fully open at about 205 degrees on my 8.3L mechanical. Based on my experience you have normal temps.

Since I note that you have a 2008 model you probably have the 07EPA engine which uses ULSD diesel. Those engines run hotter than previous models. I asked Cummins about this specifically. I have a 425 ISL and it runs 180 to 216. Today with the outside temp at 95 it was running in that range. The fan comes on at 208/210 and quickly lowers the temp to 180-190 even in the mountains. Drops 30 deg in 30 seconds. Cummins says this is normal.

thats what happens to us, first time scarred me i was tooling along and noticed the temp gauge was at 3/4 hot, so i scrolled through the data to see the real temps and it was 210-212 then the fan kicked in ( i can hear it slightly over the rumbles) and the temps drop pretty fast to the 180ish and then start the climb back up
i am going to check it off as "NORMAL"
thanks folks

We push a 330 cummins on a '06 Knight and our normal running speed of 60-64 MPH temp's read between 180-204 w/toad. If you decide it's time to flush out and replace that old factory coolant don't forget to change out the old thermostat, clean the outside fins and check/replace the SERP belt. Purring like a CUMMINS .... DocUSAF

I think you can put a manual on/off switch for you fan in. I had one on my truck and turned it on going up hills, and whenever it was hot out. also used it in traffic back ups.

If your coach has a rear radiator you might want to wash down the radiator core on both sides. O utside, rear of coach, and inside between the engine and radiator core. It may help. They trap alot of dirt etc.
