Evans Coolants

Has anyone used the Evans Coolants (Home » Evans Cooling - 100% propylene glycol) in your Cummins engine? I am coming up on the time to change the coolant in our coach and I'm considering this.

The benefits of this stuff seem impressive.

I knew of a guy that was an excellent Cummins diesel mechanic (he didn't work for Cummins) and he used it in all of his engines and highly recommended it. I have not tried it so I don't know what it is like.

Does it require additives to prevent cavitation damage?

It is slightly thicker than water and does not cavitate. No additives are needed and it never needs to be changed.

@ $50/G and never needing changed, filtered,or anti-corrosion additives added, yes it might be a good buy. I find it interesting that their global website says it will improve mileage and BHP.
Here is the MSDS for the 180 deg. purple mixture (vintage vehicles): http://www.evanscoolants.sk/userfile...180%20MSDS.pdf Haven't found one for the HD diesel mixture.

Does anybody know what it's made of?

I would also like some help to understand how using different coolant can affect fuel mileage and brake horsepower.

Evans Coolants

Evans coolant is about 2/3 ethylene glycol, 1/3 propylene glycol, with a proprietary corrosion-inhibitor solution. Evans claims it will "eliminate pre-ignition and detonation caused by overheating - thus improving combustion efficiency and delivering more power."

At a glance, it appears that you could come pretty close to the same chemical content by mixing two gallons of undiluted Prestone with one gallon of undiluted Sierra coolant. They each have corrosion inhibitors.

The only person I know that uses this stuff is running it in Porsche race cars.

Cummins is pretty specific in what coolant to use. I'd call them with the engine serial number and see what they say.

I can tell you what they will say. "If it isn't Cummins tested and approved don't use it."
Hear is some good info on coolants.
