Exhaust brake maintenance

While going through the maintenance guides in the Spartan manual I found that for the exhaust brake they say to refer to the manufacturers literature.

I contacted Spartan and they told me that the exhaust brake is supplied by Cummins.

There is nothing in the Cummins manual

Is there anything to maintain on an exhaust brake?

2005 Newmar Dutchstar ISL 8.9L 370 hp

Thanks

Your Cummins engine’s exhaust brake function, may be built into the turbocharger, through the use of a variable vanes.
Can you find a reference to VVT in the engine manual?
If the exhaust brake is a function of the turbo, then the best thing to do is avoid long periods of idle and use the exhaust brake often. Because the mechanism is prone to carboning up and sticking, causing a loss of power and a CEL .

I always use my exhaust brake. Motor home or RAM dually.
Loaded heavy and freeways or lightly loaded and driving around town. Constantly using the exhaust brake will keep the vanes moving. Saves on service brakes as well.
BTW you should turn off the exhaust brake on snowy or icy roads. Other than that, turn it on and leave it on.
