My manifold has a crack in it.
Does anybody know where I can get either a used or new one? The Cummins site doesn't provide that information as best I can tell.

Bob the pn you need is 3964070 (manifold exhaust)(old pn 3943836) and you will need (4) manifold gaskets 3937479. did you use your engine number to create the account. i got a price of $225 for manifold and $8 dollars each for gaskets. You will also need the gasket for the turbo mount.dont know that number.

Gizmo,
I was finally able to get in and have my S/N recognized. I found P/Ns 3943836 and 3943850. Where did you find P/N 3964070 and does it replace just the 1 side?
In truth, if I were going to do this I'd get both side because I don't even want to try to seperate the old pieces.

Also, I found there was a flaw in the castings at the crack. Considering the Turbo, Pac Brake and exhaust pipe are basically suspended at that point, you'd think they could have done a better job of it by thickening the casting at that particular discontinuity.

Bob, the 070 is the updated number. cummins parts desk guy said.

ive heard that they usually crack between 45to 50k miles.

the other manifold section is $120.
i asked cummins people about replacing both at the same time and they said, sure! but not needed.
ive not seen the new and improved manifolds yet.

ive just finished installing a new aero turbine4040xl muffler.(Glasspac on steroids).to help exhaust temps.different sound now .i cant wait to find a tunnel.

Hey Giz,

I'd be concerned about trying to get the 2 sections apart to replace 1 side.

As for the muffler; I replaced mine with an OEM unit purchased through Ryder. It is an exact replacement and made by 1 of my former employers. Cost was $150.00 + frt.

Regarding your new muffler, what a childish and irresponsible statement (where can I get one?).

Bob, if you read the spec's on the aero muffler . the exhaust temp drops to the point that ice cubes come out the tale pipe and you save so much fuel that you have to stop every hundred miles remove fuel from the tank.

ps
sent you a PM about being off line.

Giz,

You're not too far from us. How 'bout you forget the Toad, rent a trailer and a coupla 55 gallon drums. On the way up you can siphon the fuel you're making into the drums and drop 'em off here. Stay the night and we can change my manifold in the morning before you leave.

Save the ice cubes and we can have a few drinks.

How's that for a deal?

Bob

Bob,

Sorry to hear about your manifold. If you were by my place, I replace it for you for dinner...and a beer.

Re: that muffler and the extra fuel and ice cubes, I'll have to get me one of those.

Hi Ken.

If you were to replace the manifold it'd be worth more than dinner and "a beer".
I wound up sealing it with CarGo "Thermosteel", which is touted to be good to 2400 deg. F, supported firther by a SS clamp.
As there is no real stress on it, I'm hoping it will hold.

As for the muffler that makes ice cubes and fuel, that sure as heck someone else.
