Hey everybody just got back from a trip to Myrtle Beach and I had no pulling power up the mountains. Long story short my exhaust manifold is leaking at 4 out of the 6 gaskets. Making the exhaust brake inneffective and the turbo not work properly. Does anybody know where to get one and how difficult it is to change? Or is now the time to put a banks kit on it, and does that come with a manifold? Thanks

What engine do you have is manifold 1 piece, 3piece, Banks doesnt come with manifold--changing gaskets on disel is a BEAR- if you do it make sure you get torque right, run for awhile then retorque it

Engine make and size may give you more information.
Guessing you have a Cummins since Banks doesn't have a kit for a Cat.
Like a Cummins ISB has a 2 piece manifold.
Banks PowerPack doesn't come with a manifold. But fixing the Manifold would be a good time to put one on. As you will have the turbo off anyway.
Check the manifold for having a crack in it. I had to replace one for that.

I installed a Banks kit on an ISC. The exhaust manifold is one piece and doesn't need to come off although I did have to borrow a right angle drill to install the EGT sender.
Great idea to install a Banks if you need to do an exhaust gasket since you have most of it apart anyway. On the ISC you also replace the turbo housing which is no problem IF they send the right end plate. They didn't on ours so I had to surface sand the old one as it was warped.

He has a 39' Gulf Stream, Tour Master. His profile does not list the engine.

The motor is an 8.3 cummins. Mechanical pump motor rated at 250 horse. I think i'm going to do the manifold and that should really make it more efficant anyway. Then if for some reason I still need more power then i'll do the banks kit

I bought a Ryobi battery powered impact for the job. That was the best $100 I ever spent. Mine is an '01 ISC and has a 2 pc manifold. I replaced both piecies. My turbo didn't feel right so I ordered a rebuild kit. It then self destructed in about a mile so I got a cartage replacement. Just test drove it tonite and it runs great. Finally, I feel like I might have a motorhome!

Exhaust manifold bolts need to be taken out with an impact. Steady pressure will snap them off every time. If you use a high powered air impact start on the lowest setting and move up a notch at a time. Don't be surprised to see that you had leaks between the head and the manifold also. The gaskets have been changed and are about $10 apiece.

Exhaust manifolds fail especially the one piece ones. If you are taking the manifold off, I would seriously consider replacing it with a two or three piece new manifold.

I replaced my exhaust manifold (2 piece) back in February. I sprayed the bolts with PB blaster and used a regular socket wrench. They all came out without a problem of any kind, and the job wasn't that difficult. I spent right around $400 on the manifold, bolts, spacers, gaskets (from Cummins). My exhaust manifold had several good sized cracks in it which I understand is quite common. I have a 99 Itasca with the ISB 275.

I agree with LAVAMAN, have an ISB 275 HP, had to change out the manifold because of a crack. Very straight forward. Heat and then lub the bolts, use the proper socket, be careful of the turbo, use some high temp sealant, use the proper torques. Works just fine. Should be about a 3 to 4 hour job with breaks for a soft drink.

Thanks guys. Got the parts ordered from cummins. Said all of the places were out of stock and had to get them from the factory, about 2 week wait.

I had to have mine replaced last year, a two piece as it cracked. The new one was much heavier. I usually do this stuff myself but had a shop do it for me as I was afraid of breaking the studs. The thought of trying to drill a broken stud in a motorhome did not appeal to me.
