Exhaust rattle

2006 KSDP Cummins ISL 350 HP - After a 365 mile trip I pulled over to do a rest stop check of my toad. I left the MH engine idling while I was doing my checks. I heard, what sounded like an exhaust rattle, while the engine was idling. I started looking around, but things were a bit hot to touch anything & check for anything loose. Then once I was ready to get back on the road the rattle had stopped. Is this something loose in the muffler, like a baffle or something? How do you know if the muffler is going? What else could cause this noise?

Thanks for any info

Could be a loose baffle , in the muffler, that tightened up as the muffler metal contracted as it cooled at idle.
You'll have to duplicate the conditions; check on the road side/ rest area ; with the exhaust system at full temp, to see if the noise is there again.

You can also try hitting the exhaust with a rubber hammer to see if there is anything loose in it.
