fuel additive

Although I have not noticed signs of my Cummins smoking to any unusual extent, I do find that HydroHot does for several minutes when first in use and generator "blackens" ground pretty good, would an additive of some sort hurt and probably help? Any recommendation of specific additive?

Your hydra-hot probably needs to be serviced. Ours did that and I believe it was a jet that was changed.

Probably right about HH needing service. I am thinking that might be one of those items that got "overlooked" by service dept when getting MH ready for new buyer (me) last August.

However, with generator putting some black on ground, I am wondering if round of additive might be good idea. Of course I do not want to add something that Cummins does not need. I actually do not notice generater smoking just see quit a bit of black on grass/rock. HH service may be complete answer.

Call Roger Burke and order a new nozzle and filter for less than $30 and it's fixed.

Ditto on changing the nozzle. It's my understanding that HH can be persnickity if the nozzle is not serviced regularly. Might also consider using (1) 16oz can per 25 gals of fuel of this stuff. We use it 2-3 times per year in our dp and personal vehicles. NAPA, O'Reilly will have it on sale during the year @ about $7.95 per can.

After having my generator exhaust blowing towards my neighbour at a campout, beeing sooty and the generator running rough. My neighbour brought over some Lucas Upper Cylinder lubricant. He put in 1 cup into my remaining 50 gal of fuel.
We let it sit for 1/2 hour then started the generator. 15 minutes later the generator smoothed out and the exhaust burned clean.
I bought a bottle and added 2 cups to my 100 gal tank - when full. What a difference - smooth idle and acceleration. Cummings 400 isl and a 8,000K Ohan generator.
I will continue using it in the future.

HHot smoke issue can also be fuel pressure at the nozzle. It works really well and smokeless if your pressure is dead nuts on, and lousy comparatively if its off. Pressure is adjustable. You can fabricate a gauge IIRC from your old nozzle.
