Boy did you ask a question with that one.
You are going to get the additive no additive debate.

I use Opti-lube in my Ford.

For what purpose?

Anti-gel? Might be needed in really low temps.
Add'l lubricity? Not needed if you're buying diesel from a station.
Too much money so you need to drain the wallet?

Cummins says no add'l additives required aside from anti-gel additives and they built the engine to go 500,000-1,000,000 miles so they should know.

I use Stanadyne Performance (Blue) in the fall mostly, to lower the freeze point. The additional benefits are cetane improvement and it demulsifies any water. That is, instead of dispersing it in a miscible solution like alcohol which may pass the fuel filter, it makes the water stick together so the filters catch it. Other than, that I'm with Mr_D.

Unless of course you look at the Fleetguard Service Bulletin.
They mention RVs and fuel quality.
Some may be unaware Fleetguard is Cummins filtration.

Cummins recommends use of Fleetguard brand fuel additives. For more information: Fuel System

And you expect Cummins to recommend another brand?
But they also say:

Additionally, low sulfur diesel fuel has lower lubricity due to the refining de-sulfurization process. Lubricity additives are added at the fuel pipeline rack, however, lubricity additives sold in the aftermarket can be considered insurance to provide fuel system wear protection.
emphasis mine
I guess I need to have each fill up analyzed for lubricity.

So at that point cheaper "insurance" would be to buy a additive.

It is not like there has ever been a fuel (diesel or gasoline) recall......
If there ever was a fuel issue, while I suppose it would have to be compensated, compensation can take a while.
Not everyone chooses to buy insurance while there are those who are insurance poor. You have to make your own choice where you want to be, even somewhere in between.

Back to the OPs question, quick insurance would be to start with the Fleetguard product while you make up your own mind.

I use Power Service - White bottle in the fall/winter and Power Service Gray bottle the rest of the time. In the fall and winter - one bottle (32 oz) with each fill up and the rest of the year about every other fill up.

We use Diesel Kleen in the grey bottle. We add it on every other fill up.

Both the original owner and now myself use AmsOil Diesel Fuel additive. Great product. Never have had a fuel issue while using this product. I highly recommend you go to the AmsOil Web Site and read up on this product. http://www.amsoil.com/lit/g496.pdf
