It only takes 5 minutes to flash an upgrade or different calibration to the ECM. I use the Cummins Insite with the Cummins INCAL dvd which has all the upgraded calibrations for all the Cummins engines on it.

The reason they charge you $2000 is if they warranty the engine with it.

(you can change about anything on the Cummins)

Cummins set the Max torque on the 4000 at 3000 ft/lbs. only time you'll get close to hitting it when you juice the ISX up to 1000HP,and you use Cummins CALTERM program to edit factory locked settings, which the engines won't hold together.

Allison limits gross input torque for the 4000 series transmission in a motor home application to 1950 Ft Lbs. That's why the 600/650 HP Cummins ISX and Cat C-15 are limited to 1950 Ft Lbs.

Allison limits gross input torque for the 3000 series transmission in a motor home application to 1250 Ft Lbs. This was revised upward a few years ago for the 450HP ISL.

It's the ECM in the engine that limits the torque.

Agree, the Cat c-15 in some older Newell's was rated at 2050 ft/lbs, the 4000 could not handle that much so they stayed with the 10 speed ZF which could handle it. Once they went to the ISX with 1950 ft/lbs, the used the 4000 again.
