Head gasket change on ISB 275

I had that leak on the upper rear side near the alternator and it did end up being the head gasket. I took it into a shop last Friday after calling around and they finished it yesterday. The overall cost for the replacement and oil change was just over $1,800 which was half the cost of any other shop.

We're going on a trip this weekend so I hope to not see any water under the coach

I sincerely hope they checked both the block and head carefully for any warpage that normally results from overheating. If the head is warped, it must be milled/ground perfectly flat or you'll be doing this again.

Best of luck with your repaired 5.9.

At least it wasn't the "53" block!

It wasn't due to overheating. From my research and talking to many shops this is a know issue with the ISB 275 engines.

That was my first worry when I saw the coolant running down the block since I do have the 53 block.

From the reading I have done, about the "53" block cracking, it has not been from over-heating, but from not letting the engine warming up enough before putting it under a load? Never have blown a head gasket, that didn't at least need to have the head ground.

Just got home from picking up the coach and when I parked it I smelt diesel fuel. Looked under the coach and there was a puddle! With the coach running I can see it dripping down but I can't see from where.

One of the reasons I do all my own work if I can. Looks like a line or filter not tight.

Checked filter as well as gas lines on top but the drip was coming from under.

100% agree on doing all my own work but this was something I couldn't have done.

They had all the fuel lines off to remove the head, one could be loose or they may have damaged one. Only about 30 places for those engines to leak fuel.

Sucks because we are suppose to leave tomorrow. I am going to call them in the Am and hopefully they'll do a house call and get it fixed.

Timing on this is bad. Can't help but wonder why they didn't spot this after the head gasket repair since they should have warmed 'er up or driven it to double check their work. Hopefully it's nothing too serious.....bummer!

I know they test drove it because my wife saw them on the road. Not sure what all is involved but maybe something wiggled lose or was just hand tight.

I'm hoping it's a quick fix.

Shop came today with a couple mechanics and found a loose fuel line. The tightened it up and is now cruising around with a tech looking for another leak.
