Help with 15L QSX tear down

I had a bolt drop into the timing gears and have to change them. Is the crank shaft gear replaceable? I tried a puller on but can not move it.

Robert,

Don't take this wrong, but are you going to be doing this work or a shop? If so, take this as its intended and not an insult. Stop now. Find some one with real current Cummins experience and access to the proper tooling before it gets really expensive. Bolts don't just fall into the gear train, and to replace the timing gears on that ISX, there are tools and procedures to follow, and to pull a crank gear will likely take an OEM tool or a facsimile of one. Just a gear puller will likely hurt you or the crank. Gears are one price, cranks and the labor are another tax bracket. Look up Monaco Tool just to see, but please get someone to do the job right the first time. I know it gets expensive, but the project in front of you is large and frankly not one I would trust to just anyone. Do a little research first, of will pay off - trust me.

One has to know ones limitations, I fix trucks not rocket ships. And I don't pretend to know a dang thing about them (rockets that is).

Best of luck,

Allen

I am with Allen on this one, also if it is a QSX and not a ISX, it is an industrial engine, not a highway model.
Point, If you need to ask about the gear, I would stay clear as things can get very costly very quick.
On most engines, groping a bolt thru the timing gears, will split the block, at least on the DDC 2 strokes it does.
Been grandfathered in to Cummins as a dealer and they are serious about all areas. I have the QSOL service and with a engine #, can get part info etc.
Cheers
Dave
