How to clear a check engine light

I recently purchased a 2005 Winnebago Journey 32T with a Freightliner chassis and the Cummins ISB 5.9L.
Recently had some chassis work done. I mentioned the yellow check engine light and asked if they could read the codes and reset the light. They told me they were able to clear a code related to battery voltage but could not reset the check engine light. Can anyone help me out with a way to reset the light? Id like to try that and see if it comes back. If it comes back I will take it to the local Cummins shop for diagnostics.

Cummins can read and reset with their computer. Not sure it can be done without their program,

If the Check Engine lite comes back on after ignition key is off, then you still have an active code. IMO. What type of displace do you have? LBCU, Medallion ?

Disconnect the battery feed for about 15 minutes and re-connect it. That usually will reset the ECM on most vehicles.

If it was a 434 for Unswitched battery voltage they cleared and something is wrong (weak batteries, corroded connections ect) it will come back every time it is started.

Sounds like it's an active code.
You will need a real scan tool for the vehicle communications bus that it has.
One diagnosis and fixes the real issue,
Then clears the codes with the scan tool
Then verifies the problem is gone.

You still have not stated what type of display you have on your dash.
LBCU or Medallon (MMDC).

You can read the active code on both units. So, just call freightliner -

Call freightliner and ask them, since you have a Freightliner Chassis. have the last 6 digits of the VIN, handy.

You should have a freightliner chassis owners manual with the coach. It has photos and explains the different types

My Manual number STI-425-6, A24-00788-000

Page 2-15, Engine Diagnostic, Figure 2.18

This must be done when the Check Engine Lite is ON.

Reads Active Faults – "DO NOT TURN OFF ENGINE"

If you do not know how to get to this Menu - Press Button to the right - Hold for 5 seconds.
