As the travel season ended this year I found it time to order up more filters for getting things ready for the 2012 camping/travel season. Normally I have found FleetGuard filters priced pretty well at my local Cummins dealer, not this year though.
I did a little looking around and found that the LF9000 Oil filter had been replaced by a LF9070 filter but the FS1000 was still a good filter.
I stumbled upon a new company selling FleetGuard filters for about 1/2 cost of the BEST price I had found anywhere else so I thought I would give them a try.
Long story short, I got the filters for just under 1/2 the price and they appear to be OEM filters.
Here is the link: https://truckhelp.com/shop/
Maybe everyone already knows about these folks and maybe there are better deals, not sure. But the LF9070 was about $36.00 and the FS1000 about $10.00 which is awesome I thought.
The parts were shipped the same day as I ordered them and they got to me in perfect condition.
I got 2 LF9070
2 FS1000
1 WF2071
shipped to me $117.00

The LF9000 was obsoleted and replaced by the LF9070 due to Fleetguard fixing a problem that developed where the media had premature plugging. And, yes, those are very good prices. From my former life as Fleetguard Field Service Engineer, I saw a lot of Cummins distributors who charged upwards of $60.00 for the LF9000 and LF9001, now LF9070 and LF9080.

The plugging issue was only on the ISX big block engine.

Yea, my local Cummins dealer wanted $86.00 for it this year! I had been paying just under $50.00 for the LF9000 from them till now. The FS1000 used to be about $13.00 from them but was $26.00 this year.
I like to support my local dealer and all but at these prices it is just out of line.
Thanks for the links!

P.S. I did not know they had a plugging problem with the LF9000 I assume that was an emissions thing?

On our ISC the 9000 was replaced with a 9009 some time ago.

Your ISC never had the LF9000. The original C8.3 and early ISC had LF3000 upgraded to LF9009. Tthe LF9009 is a small thread filter compared to the nutplate size of the LF9000 now LF9070. Both are Venturi combination filters but the 9009 is smaller.

Thanks for the heads up. I just ordered a full set of filters (and a few extra fuel filters) for our Dutch Star. Now I just need to figure out where to put the darn things!

spike45,

I have an ISX 600 in an '07 coach and would be interested in hearing more on this plugging issue with the LF9000. My manual says to use LF9001. Did this have the plugging issue? I think I have another LF9001 that I purchased a couple of years ago. Should I throw it out and go to the 9080?

Thanks for your insight and helpful information.

You would know if you were experiencing short life on the LF9001 you use now. If the delta P (pressure differential) across the filter head reached 25 PSID, the check engine lamp (yellow) would flash. Hooking up the computer would show FC143 (Fault Code 143); low oil pressure. Cummins considers the filter plugged at 25PSID but still capable of letting the engine run. As the plugging increases eventually it will show another FC which I do not want to look up at 12:50AM! That will flash a red lamp and the engine will go into severe derate. If your ECM is set up for it, it will shut the engine down as well. Automotive ISX have that feature disabled but can be turned on....maybe not a good idea in heavy traffic? If you have not had the fault code warning, do not worry about it. Most ISX with this issue were in 2010 and later but there were quite a few in the 2007 - 2010 range. I doubt you flog your ISX like a Kenworth pulling 80,000+ pounds on mountain grades. Those engines would have oil pressure low warnings by the time the oil and filter had 16,000 miles on them. A big difference would be the load factor of your engine vs an 18 wheel rig. What is the date code of your spare LF9001? It is printed on the dome end of the filter with a dot matrix ink jet. It will be a 5 digit number perhaps beginning with '09' or '10'. For example, 09274 would be the 274 day of 2009. The new media that caused the LF9001 to be renamed the LF9080 would have a date code of 10004 or larger to have the revised media.
