Its the same old story, if your experienced, it is easy, for others, buy the shop manual from Cummins for your engine.

Genset is right...but if you were able to determine that this is your problem ( not the easiest of a diagnosis)...then you can most likely do it...given the correct tools required...the repair manual would still be a must for me as well...I like exploded parts illustrations!

Also check the lift Pump, if it is not providing sufficient pressure to the injector pump, probably a VP44, that will cause the VP44 to fail. If you put in a new injector pump and the lift pump is bad, you will burn up the new pump.
Just a thought
Happy trails
Jim

The pump exchange easy but is not generally the problem. I would look at other potential issues prior to the pump exchange.

The lift pump is good changed it a year ago and put on a pressure guage. Its the injector pump I have had two shops confirm but they do not have time to do it for me. They are like two weeks out.

It barley got me home and now its in the driveway and it will not even start. I have the pump picked it up on the way home from the pros too bad they could not fit me in.

Find yourself a good mobile diesel mechanic. He should be able to do it in your driveway. Check with some of the local construction companies around the area for a reference.

I have a 5.9 isb as well and was just wondering how much the injector pump costs. If you do not mind saying that is. Hopefully mine lasts a while but just in case.

You need a manual, and a number of metric hand tools, the only special tool is a small gear puller to pop the drive gear off. Torque wrench too. If your trying to do this your self send me a PM and I'll try to talk you through it.
14 years Dodge Cummins , IF I had put away $5 for every one of these pumps I changed I could have retired 2 years sooner.
Got the change down to under 2hrs on pick-ups.

Jim, most of what ,jr, needs to do / know wouldn't help you , because your engine would be " Common Rail with electronic Injectors "
I do work cheap now that I'm retired ; but I drink a LOT of beer.

Yep...but he could do a heck of allot better than I could ;-). Beer would not be a problem! I spent many a year running CG boats with diesels in them...all kinds and learned a few things...two types of folks in that line of work...breakers (that was me) and fixers!
