Installed my fuel pressure gauge

Finished my fuel pressure gauge install. The Raptor 100 lift pump is next. I was pleasantly surprised to see my stock carter was still delivering good pressure. At idle I have 14-15 psi. At cruise 11-12, and during acceleration from a dead stop with the turbo boost around 23 I was showing 9 psi. I installed an Isspro EV2 gauge that also has a light built in. I purchased the programmer for it and set the light to come on at 8 PSI. I never got the light during my test drive. I plan to install the Raptor 100 in the next week or 2. I'll keep the Carter for a spare.

I was originally planning to cut a hole in the dash ( still might) for the install but found a single gauge mount online that might work instead. It should arrive in a day or 2 and I'll take a picture and post. I purchased a decent hole saw to cut a hole in the dash but just could not bring myself to do it.

Please don't take a hole saw to the dash. Buy a roto broach and get a clean hole with no burrs.

I am not familiar with that but I will check that out. Thanks Powderman.

Is Rotabroach a name brand or the type of cutter? I found some online but pretty pricey for a one time use.

That is a brand name. Yes a little pricey, but in my opinion well worth it.

5.9 ISB with the VP44 injection pump. The VP's are notorious for dying due to low pressure from the lift pump hence the gauge and new lift pump. Preventative maintenance to hopefully avoid changing the VP anytime soon.

Got my gauge bracket today and installed it. I think it will be fine but I reserve the right to cut a hole in my dash later . Here is a pic.

Nice job, and it looks good. I understand your desire to put the gauge in the dash, but 'Murphy' tells me it isn't such a good idea.

Where/how did you plumb the gauge into the fuel line? I'm chasing algae in the fuel (causing plugged filters) and this is a much better indicator of when they're stopping up, rather than waiting for the CHECK ENGINE light to tell me I have low pressure.

I installed the fuel pressure sensor on the fuel filter canister (clean side) using a Tork Tek snubber. This replaces the banjo bolt where the fuel line feeds the VP44 injection pump. The snubber is important to prevent gauge fluctuations and also helps increase the life of the sending unit. The added benefit of having a fuel pressure gauge on the clean side of the filter is like you said getting an indication of a clogged filter. It's just a good piece of information to have with a diesel and especially if you have a VP44 that will pull fuel from the tank in the event the lift pump quits and keep the engine operating without you knowing it while damaging your very expensive injection pump.

I used a hole saw to mount my EGT gauge. Just to the left of the steering colum there is a good spot without anything behind. I put some wide masking tape over the spot and it cut through nice and clean.
