I have a 2000 Winnebago Journey and was wondering if I add about 12" to the slobber tube would this be a good thing?

Yep, If it has not been done yet. It needs to be low enough that any oil coming out will be directed below the MH and not able to be drawn into your radiator. You may need to clean your radiator also. Simple Green solution sprayed on the inside of your radiator and blown out by your engine cooling fan will get it out.

Excellent idea, it only took me one look at the radiator and inlet cooler to know something had to be done to correct the the restrictive build ups caused by this engineering poh pah. I have a 99 Adventurer with 5.9 ISB, and routed the extension down and back clear of the exchangers. I've had a favorable decline in operating temps. The messy part was the clean out, it had to have been several years of build up.

A word of caution when extending the slobber tube.
use material that is impervious to oil. Should the material one uses to extend the tube collapse it can cause an engine problem.

A water plastic water bottle with 3/16" holes peppered into the top of it, then cross hatch the top where you screw the top on to give room for a hose clamp to tighten down. (a hunk of copper pipe between the two)
ALSO MAKE SURE YOUR OIL IS NOT HIGH ON YOUR STICK AS THIS WILL CAUSE SLOBB-ER TUBE OIL

Here are a couple of good ideas. I'm going to try the peanut butter jar which sounds similar to palehorse89

Since I don't like peanut butter, I opted for a Mayo. Jar. I had a rubber hose extension but picked up on the side effect of oil on rubber on a post on this thread. Thanks Nonno for the other sites on other variations. I used the vented plastic jar with steel wool in the bottom. I offset the hole in the lid to compensate for the close tolerance of the slobber tube to the engine block, didn't have to incorporate an extension. A 3/4 inch hole in the cap worked just fine, and a narrow SS clamp on the under side.

Wow, a lot of good ideas here. I like the peanut butter jar idea. Will incorporate it in the spring. Thanks for all the input.

I got a wonder fix for my slobber tube and never had another problem with it. This was to correct the TSB for the Dodge Ram which this design did and I've been using it for over 150K miles and no need for puke bottle any longer...

that PVC makes for a nice neat installation. I just ran a long length of rubber hose down by the power steering box and let it drip on the ground. I'm a cheap skate.

Yeah the rubber hose works but keep an eye on it too because if the hose kinks shut then the crankcase will build up pressure from blow by and usual get the crank seal leaking...

Here is the Dodge TSB 09-002-02

Quote:
Date: March 11, 2002

Models: 1998-2002 (BR) Ram Truck

NOTE: THIS BULLETIN APPLIES TO 1998 - 2002 (BR) RAM TRUCKS EQUIPPED WITH THE 24-VALVE CUMMINS DIESEL ENGINE BUILT AFTER MARCH 27, 1998 (ESN 56443872).

Symptom/Condition:
Owners of 1998 - 2002 (BR) Ram Trucks equipped with the 24-valve Cummins diesel engine may experience engine oil overflow from the front crankcase breather when the vehicle is operated off-road on an extreme downhill grade (37.5% or 22° slope/grade). Operation of this type for extended periods of time can cause enough engine oil depletion to damage the engine. A kit containing all components necessary to eliminate the oil overflow has been made available. If the condition exists, perform the repair.
The whole idea was since my truck does get used offroad the designed idea was to be like a snowmobile. Haven't you seen that a sled can be rolled up-side-down and never leak. Well in the TSB if the nose of the vehicle is to low then it just drains out. Well with the pipe idea the nose goes down but the pipe stays higher that oil level so no oil to spill...

I know that was over kill but someone else might need the idea...

There's a kit that was a TSB from Dodge that did away with the pill bottle on the front and but the breather in the tappet cover with a draft tube going down beside the starter. The tappet area is a much calmer area than the front cover with the gear train whipping up the oil. I used to lose a couple of quarts of oil between changes, now if I lose half a quart I'm surprised.

The TSB is 09-002-02 and should fit all ISB series Cummins engines.

EDIT-Haha, got punked but one minute!
