ISC 330 Upgrade ?

I have a 05 Newmar 3910 with a 330 ISC. I've called Cummins here in Indy and gave them the engine serial # trying to find out if it could be upgraded in HP and torque. They are telling me no it can not. Just wondering if anyone else has had any luck in doing this? Thanks for any help you can give me.

Hi Tileman71; I don't know why Cummins would tell you that it is not possible. In 04 I had my 2000 Monaco Windsor with the 8.3 ISC set at 330 HP from the factory. When having it into Cummins Northwest for some work, I asked if it could be bumped up to 350HP. Said they needed to call Allison and let me know. No problem, set engine to 350HP. If the electronics are different for the 05 engine or for some reason the engine, transmission combination cannot handle the bump up in HP, that might be an answer. I think you need to do some more research and phone calls to get a better answer. I would ask Cummins, why the engine cannot have an increase in HP and see what their answer is besides, no, it can't. Above is my experience only. Hope you can get some better answers.

Do you know what transmission you have?? This is usually the limiting factor on increasing HP. The ISC engine has a wide range of HP that it can be programmed at. In my case I have 350HP. When I first purchased the rig I actually asked the local Cummins shop if in fact I could turn down my HP (Thinking it might save fuel), the shop manager advised me not to as I'd need the HP. He was right, my rig is heavy and needs every bit of the power.

ISC 330 upgrade

There are a couple of after market boxes for the ISC 330, Truck Edition (#12100) is one and the other is from TS Performance (#2110301). Both provide up to a 30% boost in power. They connect differently but provide about the same HP. Look at them and see if they will do what you want. I am still debating buying one. Some claim an increase on mileage as well as HP.

One factor will be the cooling system, if you have a side radiator it's probably not a problem. The 3000MH is used behind the ISL 450's so a 350 isn't even close to straining it.

I'd make another call to Newmar and see what is the limiting factor on the system. The transmission can handle more HP. Someone mentioned the cooling system.

Newmar may know

Humm, my ISC 8.3 is factory 350HP. Schied diesel at Terre Haute said they can safely go up to 370HP, more is doable (the last ISC's to be produced were 370HP). BTW, Schied is a Cummins authorized dealer/service shop.
The Allison MH spec pdf
shows the 3000 series transmission has a maximum input of 450HP, 1250 TQ.
