Does anyone get an advisory light on the dash when the engine goes into regeneration mode?
I have 4k miles now and would like to know if its regenerating the dpf?

thanks

I do remember a light coming on when it needed regeneration. All that meant was I needed to drive at highway speed for awhile and then the light went out.

What is "regneration mode" ?
What does "regenerating the dpf" mean/accomplish? (dpf ???)

I have 50k on my ISC and have never heard of these words before!!!!

Paul, mine only came on once and it was when I was driving in a lot of heavy traffic at slow/idle speeds. The converter just builds up carbon and needs to clean itself which it does at high RPM's which relates to higher exhaust heat. Mind you, I'm no diesel expert, this is just what I recall reading in the Cummins manual.

Considering the fact that I have not heard of this in relation to my ISC, and looking at the model years of the people responding who apparently have heard of it, I am going to guess this is a feature of the newer "ULSD only" engine.

regen is a process to remove built up soot that the particle filter traps to prevent it from upsetting the sierra club

i was wondering if i get a light to tell me its in regen....
actually at high speeds the dpf is not busy as the diesel is already a ULEV
they usually only spray soot when you mash the go pedal and the air filters are clogged or over fuel
think city bus....

but my last three oil burners only smoked NEVER

Having to do with the '07 guvment exhaust requirements.
DPF = diesel particulate filter (catches soot)
Every now and then an exhaust aftertreatment sys. (active regeneration) kicks in and cleans the soot from the DPF. How? It pours raw fuel (there goes your mileage) into the exhaust heating the DPF and "burning" the soot away.
An '03 engine does not have this system.

Long ago and far away we called dumping raw fuel into the exhaust an afterburner. The good ole J-57 would burn approx. 10,000 gal/per/hour or tanks dry in 12 minutes (capacity was 1,800+ gal) All this at sea level... but keep in mind you were moving right along
