We have a 2006 Itasca Horizon with a 400 HP Cummins ISL Turbo Diesel. It overheats in summer conditions far more than I would like. We find ourselves downshifting to as low as second gear to keep the RPM's above 2000 and the temperature below 220, which means we're traveling on I-70 in the mountains at about 30 MPH, which is a drag.
Is it possible to install a larger radiator to keep the engine better cooled?

Have you thoroughly cleaned the radiator fins, i.e. the outside of the radiator?

Your radiator is designed to run at the proper temperatures so I would look for a problem. It could be a dirty radiator, a cooling fan that is not working, a stuck thermostat or other problem.

I clean my ISL 400hp at least once a year. You'd be surprised at the amount of grime that comes off.
Spray Simple Green on the radiator and then rinse off.

We have the same engine in our 06 Endeavor but have the Horton electric two speed fan installed on ours. The fan is silent and not running until the temp gets to 220 degrees and then it kick on and cools the engine down to around 180. There are days we drive and the fan never comes on, especially when the temps are lower ourside. There are a lot of folks with the Monaco products that have the Horton fan and love it. The other good thing is the noise factor of not hearing the roaring of the engine fan all of the time.

Is it possible to install a Horton Fan on a side radiator cooling setup? The side radiator cooling fan on a Freightliner chassis is also temperature controlled through the variable hydraulic fan drive motor. Was that disabled or does the Monaco chassis have a different setup from Winnebago.

Harry B,
I don't have a clue whether it will work on the side mount radiator or not. Not being a mechanic I would be affraid to try and answer. I would call cummins.

Bad question I know but the hydraulic fan is running during this time? My father had about 3k worth of parts and labor in his, thankfully his defaulted to full speed fan.

I'm pretty sure that when the Horton fan is installed and in place the regular stock fan is discontinued and will not run.

We have the same unit and experienced the same problem this past July. Cleaning the side radiator didn't seem to help much. I'm watching for suggestions to have our Freightliner Service Center check.
