ISL on recall list with 41K miles
I am looking at an 07 HR Imperial with an ISL 400 on the recall list for wrist pin bushing improper machining. I assume the recall band aid procedure has been performed. I will have to check with Cummins. My question is this much of a concern after 41K miles. I really like the coach but also feel there are many out there without this concern if it is for real

If it were me, I'd bypass it. Who needs the extra hassle? If it were really extraordinary then I'd have to have a $30-40k discount in anticipation of the break down. IMO

Most of the engine failures occurred during the first few thousand miles, I don't recall any failures after that or they were rare.
Personally, I wouldn't be comfortable with an engine in that serial number range.

It's easy to say that if it were one of the problem engines then it would have blown by now. I would pass if it were me. My neighbor had the ISL in his '06 Allegro Bus blow due to this defect at around 30k. As you say, to many without this issue.

Here is the message that has just been posted:

Thanks, this is all helpful information. I contacted Cummins and was told the wrist pin problem on the 400 was production date Oct 17,2005 - Oct 18, 2006 (Eng #'s 46463798 - 46603939)
The above is from a post on another forum.

Thanks for all the input. I agree the probability of there being an issue is small but would always be on my mind if I purchased this coach. In reading several discussions it seems very few failures have been reported recently yet at least one occurred this year at 45K miles.

There may be a sticker near the driver's seat with the S/N. If not;
From the Cummins site:
ISC and ISL:
The dataplate is located on the top side of the gear housing. It includes the following engine data:
Engine Serial Number (ESN)
Critical Parts List (CPL)
Model
Horsepower and RPM rating
If the engine dataplate is not readable, the ESN can be found on the engine block on top of the lubricating oil cooler housing. Additional engine information is on the electronic control module (ECM) dataplate.

Seems to me that the longest that an engine went was 10,000 miles so, yes, if it was going to fail it should have by now.
