That's a new one for me. How do you know it's gone bad?

Check engine light came on. According to Cummins, it was replaced once before I bought it. Then in March the light came on and it was replaced by a Cummins shop in Virginia on my way to Florida. On my last day of the return trip in April, the light came on again and the Cummins shop in Newburgh, NY was told by Cummins to replace it. They claim there is a problem.

You really need to have them check your p&D tubes, they get stopped up and the light will come on then as well. Sometimes the egr cooler get water in it and the causes the p&d tubes to get gummy.

Steve, I am also one of those guys and, no, I don't know what it stands for.

Just to bring everyone up to date, I now have 22k miles and have just installed the 5th egr in this, counting the original one. Since I am now in the third year of my warranty, they now charge a deductable of $100.

Now I am getting mad. Since each egr valva has been replaced by a diferent service center, I can't blame the techs, I can only blame Cummins for a poorly designed valve.

I wanted to bring this up to see if anyone else is having this type of problem.

Hi OldHiker: Anything further on that EGR valve? We're scheduled in at Nappaneee on 9/22 and wonder if there is another thing to be checked re: this valve?? Haven't yet had a problem so it's NOT on our "Work Order" list. Steve & Lynette

Nothing new, but I have not started my return trip back to New York. Since they did not find any problem, I have very little faith that this has been fixed.

To be continued......

26 thousand miles and number 6th takes a fall. This time they also replaced the ecm. Claims it could be at fault. All connectors were replaced and another 2 nights at Atlantic Cummins, Cloverdale Va off of I81 in Virginia. These guys are good and talked Cummins into also replacing the ecm.

Hopefully, this is The End.

Hope it's fixed this time, though I cannot for the life of me guess how the ECM could make an EGR go bad.
