For those with Cummins ISM's or ISX's be aware that the cooling fan is mechanical and is driven through a gear box located directly behind the fan. This gear box requires an oil change to synthetic 75W90 within the first 1,000 to 1,500 miles as stated within the manual.

I had mine done today at 1,000 miles. The oil was metalic grey and was 2/3 full. Filled now with 75W90 Quacker State 100% synthetic.

Note: Be careful when it is changed to only drain from the bottom hex plug and fill from the side located plug. The plug on top has a set screw in the center. It is not a fill port and removal of this may lead to serious problems as I believe it is an adjustment for gear backlash.

Regrettably, mine was changed by Cummins Cumberland in Knoxville as they reinstalled the fan that had come off...
