I have a Cummins ISM with a built date of 02/04. CM870 ECM. After taking note of the Hanak instructions, I noted on their web page about the sensor being on the same side as the fuel pump on the ISM. I found one manual that shows the sensor...attached pdf. I also took a couple of photos while I was UNDER the motorhome. The sensor on mine was below the ECM, between the fuel pump and the "slober tube." ...photo with sensor circled.
It wasn't the best location to work on but I did finally get the old sensor out and the Ugly Fix in.

I won't be able to take a test drive for a couple weeks to see how it runs.

Thanks Hwbuck for the explanation. I spent some time reading the Hanak website and ordered one of these Ugly Fixes for my ISM. If it performed like what I have read it should be a "no brainer" to have one onboard.

Has anyone here tried this on a ILS?

And has anyone tried it yet on any engine?

Results?

Correct Location

Thanks to Arazonanomad and Tireman1 for correcting my WRONG LOCATION.
sure was easier where I had it but not the correct place. Had to suck it up a bit to crawl under and find the spot but there it was just as you two said. Thanks

I have a 2002 500 ISM...Would I need this and, what is the difference between an ISM and an ISL?

I am a little green in the engine area...but trying to learn!

Some 2002 coaches had 2001 engines soo you need to check when your engine was built. The ISM is a 10.8 litter engine and the ISL is 8.9 litter engine and they are very different. On the side of your engine you should have a Cummins idea tag which will tell which engine you have. You would need to have a London Aire coach to have a ISM in 2002. All Essex from 2003 till 2010 and some 2011 have the ISM.

EGR leak

Not sure if this was a failure before the Ugly Fix install or came after. On my ISM 500 (2006 TSS) the exhaust gas leaves the cooler and travels in a pipe to the rear of the engine then turns up and goes back to the front to the EGR valve. At that bend there is what appears to be a stainless steel bellows used to allow expansion etc. It connects the lower pipe with the upper pipe going to the EGR. This bellows or connector blew out allowing exhaust to leak. I suspect the closed EGR was pressurizing this line causing a crack to become a leak. Cummins want $390.00 for the tube with a new bellows - Ha Ha. Have patched short term with a muffler repair material and muffler tape but long term will need to either block the line itself or replace the bellows with something else.

Has anyone else seen this?Click image for larger version

You only need the Ugly Fix if your engine has an EGR system. Cummins incorporated the EGR into the ISM fuel system in Oct of '02 in advance of the '04 EPA standards. You can down load Cummins Quick serve app and plus in your engine serial number. It will give you the date your engine was built. It will also list EGR components if there are any.

Since the ugly fix is listed for pre 2008 engines. Are these engines before the particulate mufflers/filters were installed. My engine was built in late 2007 and has the dpf system. I am very interested in using this product if it is compatible. I have none of the symptoms that the Ugly fix cures but would like to eliminate future problems and more power and mpg would be nice too.
