Just playing the waiting game right now. Need to get the real answer as to what happened and will go from that. Thanks for the encouragement! Yes, it's frustrating but the "honey" approach is what I will need to use.
Bad injector? Well, we'll probably have to eat that.
Broken valve in the same cyl? Well maybe some hope with help on that.

Just got an email back from a contact at Cummins:

Quote:
First off, I want to apologize for this bad luck. However, you can rest assure that there have been product improvements made recently to our ISX cylinder head related to the model year you own. Cummins Inc. launched a problem solving project on this very component. This resulted in releasing a premium intake valve for the cylinder head, which allows for greater reliability and durability in higher temperature cylinder heads, similar to your ISX 650 horsepower engine.

As I understand it, all parts saleable to the channel now have this solution implemented. I am presently working to confirm this as fact.
So, Cummins knows there's a problem and is working to fix it, now to see if they stand behind their problems with a "good will" warranty.

Hopefully there will be a "good will" price adjustment for a known problem.
Good luck.

Mr_D: You know more about this and how to interact with the Cummins folks than most of us here on this site. My $0.02, however, is to let them propose a solution before you volunteer to pay for any!
Thanks for keeping us updated.

It certainly is beginning to appear that Cummins has a serious flaw in the intake valve design in these engines. At the end of the day, I speculate that it will be determined that these valves have been constructed of a material that is incapable of handling the higher cylinder temperatures that these engines run at.

If this truly is the situation, then in an ideal world, Cummins should pay all the bills. Alas, we live in less than an ideal world.

Jim

I have the bill from the original repair and according to it they have to remove the closet frame and bed to open the hatch. The woodwork is in good shape or was. Hope they're careful!
