Is your's a CM871 produced around 2007 and a DOHC?

Mine was produced 12/07.

Do you know what head assembly was used in your rebuild? Cummins can't tell me what valves were used in my second rebuild in March 2015 even though I know the head part number.

Call a cyl head rebuilding shop - you should be able to pick up two junk valves (that they had to replace/cant use) to send back to Cummins with your core return.

Nice. Late DW probably wouldn't have liked it either. She didn't like the Magna and I'm still wondering why she OK'd buying it. I have a suspicion she thought she had cancer (confirmed a couple months after we bought it) and wouldn't survive so she tried to make me happy. And I would be except for the engine.

Over the past 30+ years, I've had diesel engines from Detroit, Kobata, Volvo, Ford (7.3), Onan (1990), the 3 cylinder in the Generic 75D and of course the 5.9 24 valve Cummins. ALL, with the exception of the Cummins, have been trouble free, just do the routine maintenance and your good to go. Between the Bosch VP44 failure, exhaust manifold failure, fuel line failure(s) and POOR service by 2 different Crosspoint Cummins locations, when I upgrade this spring, I'd buy a gas motorhome before I'd buy another motorhome with a Cummins diesel. Fortunately, the used coaches I'm looking at have Detroit's and one has a Cat.

Do anyone think that some of the Cummins engines are made in China

Mr D, all new new head assembly. Don’t know the P/N I’ll try to find out. Supposed to be the latest.

As far as a joint venture, that's interesting too. But then comes the dilemma, will the engine be more Cummins or more Paccar, or equal parts of both?
Thanks guys.
They are now built by the same people for at least the last 30 years, not sure of the exact year.

It should be 5413782RX. The RX is the rebuild designation. That will be the latest head, valves and seats.

Dont let the rebuild vs new bother you. I would rather have a casting that has been used, machined and inspected vs. a new one.

I can also confirm that the rear bath is considerably cooler after our repairs. Not sure if it was the head or EGR cooler but we drove 10 hours straight yesterday starting in Florida and when we stopped the floor was warm but not hot like it was before the fix.

I would say since you are in there and spending the money get a new EGR cooler installed. It's under $1,800 and the labor is a push.

Remember if a member of Cummins Power RV Club you get 10% off both parts and labor. Cost 19.95 a year. If you would mention my name they will send me some Cummins hats or shirts. Thanks Tom Chelbana

On my last bill of $33,000 the power club save me $1,200 so it's not 10% of all parts and labor.
Still worthwhile though and I'll rejoin this year.
