Location of secondary fuel filter on 2003 ISL

Pardon if this has previously been covered....a lot to wade thru in the search.
I have changed the primary fuel filter, trans fluid and filters and oil and oil filter on our 2003 Newmar Mountain Aire, but cannot locate a secondary fuel filter. The only location I have not looked (which involves pulling the bedroom floor cover) is near the top rear (actually front given it's backward orientation) of the engine......Am I on a wild goose chase, or does such a filter exist in my application ? Thanks

On the ISLs I have seen, the secondary is mounted on the engine block on the curb side, back toward the flywheel.

Unless it is mounted toward the top of the block, it's not there....Im going to
pull the access plate in the bedroom and take a look from the top.....it is definitely elusive !

Most 2003-2004 chassis don't have a secondary filter. Cummins allowed a single filter in those years and both Freightliner and Spartan did so. I guess it wasn't adequate, cause Cummins changed the spec back to primary + secondary around 2005.

By the way, this is not a Cummins question. The location of fuel filters is determined by the chassis builder, not Cummins.

Our 2004 DSDP, ISL, on a 2003 Spartan chassis only has (1), a combo fuel filter/water separator. Have been wondering if a second filter could be added and what benefit, if any, would be accomplished.

Our 2002 DSDP on Spartan does not have a secondary filter, just the primary one above the starter between the block and frame.

Some people have added a secondary, just to be sure that dirt never reaches the injection pump (which would likely ruin it). Odds are you would never have to change the secondary - it's mostly a fail safe if you have the single filter system.

In a two filter system, the primary is a water separator and coarse filter, while the secondary is a fine filter. In a single filter system, the one filter is both water separator and fine filter. It seems to be adequate in normal usage, but apparently Cummins (and Cat too) decided to go back tot he dual filter system for extra protection. I can only guess that some engines had dirt problems.

Most any diesel shop could add a secondary for you. Last I heard, it takes about $80-$100 in parts and a few hours labor to rig it up. Labor costs will vary by chassis type and model as well as the coach body (accessibility).

We have a Yanmar diesel in a sailboat...it has two filters too.

Must have been the '02's also as we (supposedly) got the last '02 MM chassis that Newmar had to build on.
Our 2000 DSDP on FL had two filters.

I believe Cummins will configure any engine for water separator type single filter, and the decision to add a second is the vehicle mfgr's (they call them OEM's) decision. My 06 m.y. coach had single on an ISL, remote mounted. The engine came w/a remote-mount filter head on the engine, for piping to the remote filter & back.
My o8 rig has a standard Cummins mount filter on the PS of engine, and remote w/water separator where I can drain it to check fuel status.

Had the anti-freeze and trans fluid changed on Wed, 5/16/12 and spoke with the service mgr at the Cummins-Onan shop about adding a second fuel filter. Looks to be about a $300-350 dollar bill so am going to most likely get it done soon. Thanks everyone for your input and advice.

I've thought about doing it but in 10 years I've never had any fuel/filter related trouble nor have I had the "water in fuel" light come on.
