More on the saga of the ISX dropped valve!
Took MH to dump tanks since they REALLY ripe! Dumped and got about a mile from home and stopped at a very busy corner. Engine stopped and would not restart. Called CoachNet, they asked if I was in a safe location:" NO!
Said they would call law enforcement and also a tow truck. The called back and said it would be about an hour for the tow and the LEO's had been called too. Also said they would pay to tow it home and then to the shop on Monday.
Sat there for about an hour with traffic from behind having to go around me in the opposing lane. Not a nice location at all.
Just for giggles I tried it again and it started. Drove it home and parked it. No trouble codes on the VMS of dash readout so no idea what happened!
So did Cummins get it fixed or what now? Couldn't be out of fuel or it wouldn't have started and gotten me home.
Ideas?

That's most likely a loose electrical connection, usually a ground on the engine considering the work they just did.

What do you think your going to do Monday? Drive it back to the shop and hope it stays running or risk towing it?
That's a tough call.

Good question! Today I've got to do a brake job on the wife's Civic so probably won't have time to do anything till Tuesday as Monday is taken with Lodge stuff and work.
I've never had a diesel die like that either. Loose wire seems to make the most sense though.
Wife is getting really disgusted with the MH now! Want to reload stuff but if we do will we need to take it all out again?

Agree with that. I'm sure there were plenty of harnesses & grounds disrupted during the major overhaul process. Nothing worse than intermittent electrical gremlins..... well, maybe a dropped valve.

You should call the shop that fixed it and ask them what they want to do about your problem. There should be some sort of warranty for this situation.

Going to do that in the morning since it happened over the weekend and I want to talk with the supervisor as they still owe me the two used belts I asked them to save and the super acknowledged that he knew about my request.

"Engine would not restart"
Starter would not turn over?
Starter would work but engine would not fire?
Engine would fire but not run?
If the starter would not respond, then likely a electrical wiring problem or the starter was frozen up.
Check the battery connections and the starter motor connections. Also check the connections at the starter switch.

Starter turned the engine over fine, just would not catch and run. Almost like the fuel solenoid was turned off.
When it started it didn't run rough or any other signs of fuel starvation. Took right off and ran strong.
Did call Cummins about 10:00 am and left a message, no call back yet unless they called home after I left for work.

Yeah, sounds like an ECM ground is loose. I'd love to say I've never done that, but unfortunately it happens.

On my old rig, the shut down solenoid had a wire vibrate loose at 16 years old.
Starting became intermittant, until I accidently found the loose wire.
Might be worth a look.
Its no fun to be at the truck stop fuel pump and cannot restart.

Did you notice if your voltmeter gauge was working when it would not start. The gauge gets its input from the ECM?

Called the shop again, Ed claims he has no idea why it quit, tried to suggest it was out of fuel but there was no rough running or even hesitation when it started so I very much doubt that. I've never had a diesel stop like that. It never did it before Cummins worked on it either. It does start better now though! As if that's some consolation for the $$.
Also, they can't find the engine belts that they were supposed to give me back to keep for spares.
Wife and I really hate to start loading anything back into it in case it needs to go back. In fact the wife hasn't even set foot in the MH since we got it back. Sure does suck now since I will have to keep working for a few more years!
