New Newmar Air Filter Restriction Warning

Brand new London Aire. First time turned on engine got dash warning that there was Air Filter Restriction. Why should that be?

"First time turned on engine" Did this happen in the dealer's lot? If not, how did the RV get where you first turned on the engine? Check for any plastic or something blocking the engine air intake. Call your seller and ask how this could happen.

We have a 18 London Aire with Spartan chassis and the 605 and our filter restriction is on 15 after 3K miles. Would suggest re-setting the gauge by pushing the bottom of the gauge and it should return to 0. The next time you drive it will record the new reading. We had a early model Essex with 500 ISM engine and gauge would read in the red with a new filter. Switched to a K&N style filter and made a intake scope and the reading dropped down to 7 or 8 with clean filter. Also picked up 2 psi boost from the turbo with the change.

The Filter Minder is not wired into the ECM....... to give the engine a signal. If you are indeed getting a "Restriction" message........the ECM is getting it from a sensor on the air system..........it will need looked at.......to diagnose what is going on.
Is the Filter Minder pegged out at over 25" ?
Might just want to check your air filter to make sure nothing is in there and all your connection's..........

I agree, if the warning was on the dash display, it's something other than the Filter Minder. The Filter minder is easy to read and reset, see if it also shows high restriction. It could be as simple as a loose connection. Does the engine run normally? Any smoke? Do you have a boost gauge? What does it read?

Many of us diesel owners will not use K&N type air filters. I personally do not feel they offer adequate filtering under anything other than optimal conditions.

Perhaps the reason the restriction dropped and boost increased because the K&N filter wasn't truly filtering? I've seen too much about K&N filters to ever put one on any of my vehicles.

After 140K miles in our Essex with 500 ISM engine I recommend either a K&N or AFE air filter. Have been on some of the worst roads in the USA and Alaska and the inside air filter pipes were always very clean. If you don't feel those air filters don't a good job then don't use them. Cummins is having turbo replacements with Farr and other paper filters coming apart and damaging turbo. Replacement of paper air filters should be done once a year because the glue that holds filter together can come apart. Rain seems to be the problem when air filter gets wet.
