Hello again, still new to this. a little ground work prior to question. Was at Jamboree. had to park in fields with 4000 other campers. very warm very hot and dusty. after 5 days their when leaving vehicle got to warm due to rad blockage. Gauges were all running hot until had rad blown out at rad shop. Rad was not flushed just blown out with water then air. Ran beautiful after that however when accelerating it now makes a rattle noise back in rad area. Spoke with Cummins they do not feel it is a engine or transmision problem as all temperatures are perfect now. I have climbed under to see if the air loosened anything but am not sure what i am looking for. They suggest nothing serious if gauges are good and running normal etc.

Any suggestions of what might be causing this new rattling sound. Sorry but i do not know how to explain it any differently.

thanks,
rick

Chassis make and other info will help , when your posting. Side rad or rear mounted ?
On my DSDP, F/L, Cat. side rad all the fan shrouds are plastic, held in place with sheet metal screws. So first place to start would be all fan shrouds , then anything else that may have been hit by the water and air. Also examine the alternator belt and pullies to see if any debris got into the belt or if the water rusted the pullies. Good Luck.

Pressure washing a radiator should be avoided or done carefully. Some washers have up to 3,000 psi and potentially can cause damage. I maybe you can localize the problem by listening. There is a very easy way to keep your radiator clean. Spray a solution of Simple Green onto the fan side of the radiator; run the engine to blow the solution through the radiator; and repeat until the solution comes out clear. Do this once a year and there will not be a buildup.

Hello again and thanks. I guess I should have said it is a 2000 Dutchstar - 8.3 cummins - spartan chassis - side mounted rad. I appreciate the help and will do what suggested.

If nothing appears to be loose , you may have to remove the serpintine belt and check for debris in the belt grooves and pully grooves. If you are removing the belt by yourself, take a picture of the belt routing for reference when reinstalling. Or at least draw a detailed digram. Clean any grooved pulley with a small wire brush, or a tool that will go into the bottom of the groove. I ground down an old can opener to match the groove. Clean any rust off smooth surface pulleys with steel wool. Check the belt for damage and debris. Once again Good luck.
