Oil on top of motor

I was checking out my ISC10 when I had the panel off the top of the engine compartment last week and I noticed that there was a coating of oil on top of the motor. I am assuming it is a result of overfilling the oil. Is this normal? I do not seem to use any oil and there are no puddles under the rv.

Would suggest clean up area and then run engine at fast idle (1500) RPM for 10 min. and see if there is more oil on the valve cover area.

What is an ISC10? Do you mean a Cummins ISC 8.3L engine?

I'm having trouble understanding how oil could get on top of the engine other than someone spilling it.
Are you sure it's oil? Could it be a loose injector line and that's diesel mixed with grime/gum on top of the engine?

Hello to all; Once on my previous 2000 Monaco Windsor, I had it in for an oil change. My coach had no slides so all I had to do was lift the bed and open the engine compartment hatch to access almost the whole engine and part of the transmission. After the oil change I opened the hatch and discovered oil all over the top of the valve cover and down onto the transmission. The only thing I could figure out was that when pumping new oil in through the oil cap on top of the valve cover, the nozzle came out of the valve cover and shot all over the cover and ran down the top of the valve cover all the way to the transmission. It had to be a couple of quarts to get that much that far. No effort to clean anything up. Got a hold of the service manager and gave him hell for such a sloppy job. I had no leaks after cleaning everything up so I knew the oil came from whoever changed the oil. No wonder that now I try to do everything myself as it is hard to trust these people to do the job right and clean up a mess that they make. They think none of us will inspect their work. Did by any chance you just get your oil changed?
