Oil test results?

Well I got back the oil analysis from Blackstone..everything was perfect (wear particles were lower than expected ) except that it had a high silicon level of 24ppm..

They said it could be dirt intrusion.. But since wear is less than expected ..how can that be? I also read that with dirt intrusion I should see 2 to 1 ration of silicon to Aluminum ....And since raw silicon( dirt) is comprised of aluminum.. How can it be explained.?

Checked air filter and hoses all look secure.... I did use new rubber hose to draw sample from dipstick using my well used mightyvac.... ( I had previously used my Mightyvac to empty my rear end oil on my 66 ford).. And I must admit I cleaned it pretty well but there places I couldn't reach )

Opinions thoughts?

If it is your first oil sample do not worry about it. The next sample will tell you a lot more, what it will show is a trend level with some things going up, some going down and some remaining the same. The silicon could be from removing the air filter or other intake system parts and getting a little dust ingested in the engine and would be a one time event. As I said you are looking for trends from sample to sample. I would put some more miles on it and then send in a sample this fall, I do this every year and have built up a 9 sample record. My last sample Blackstone recommended I change my oil, I am just waiting on the filter to come in hopefully before this weekend and change it. I will probably put another 200-300 miles on this year and then send in another sample . Good luck and enjoy the MH.

Well spoke more in depth with Blackstone.. They feel that it's probably not from dust since it doesn't have the high aluminum that always accompanies the dirt.. but they can't be 100%... They also stated that I shouldn't have used a new rubber hose since that in itself could raise Silicon as posted...They recommended same as you drive it or a few more hundred miles and send in another sample...

Was just concerned about damaging the engine..but hey feel I would be OK ... But advised me to check my filtration system...which I did..all seems secure... Thinking of ordering another filter.. Even though the filter minder looks great.. ( doesn't look like it has moved at all)

silicon can come fromRTV silicon gasket maker.abalysis is parts per million thus very sensitive. silicon coud have come from the differential lube as typically diff cobers are sealed by RTV gasket maker alwats use a new tube or hose in your case. eveb a tiny amount of oil residual in the tube could skew the result

I use a pump with a piece of food grade plastic tubing. The pump is sold by most labs and accepts a regular sample bottle made for this purpose. I use a new piece of tubing for each sample. The tubing is cheap from Ace or equivalent.

Denis is right on the money Use one of the pumps made for the job and use new tubing every time. To make shure you don't hit the bottom of the pan cut your hose as long as your dipstick or mark it just enough longer you can get a good sample.

Well ordered a new pump from Blackstone and took the rig on a 1200 mile trip last week... Today I overnighted them a new sample...
