Ok I missed this

When did cummins go to def & regen. I thought def was the answer to pollution and now I read about new coaches needing to regen.
Do the new regen motors use less def?

Thanks

DEF and Regen are two different systems.
DEF is for reducing NOX emissions.
Regen is the process of converting the soot in the diesel particulate filter to carbon dioxide.
They did not go from one to the other the Cummins has both systems.

I was told by a fellow camper that on 2020 they were doing away with DEF. Any truth to this?

My rig has an '07 EPA ISX with a DPF, but no DEF. Seems like the DEF came in with the 2010 emission controls.

Yep on the 2010. I had a 2010 3500 Dodge Dually with 6.7L 340HP Cummins, NO def. Must’ve been built early 2010 or late 2009. Got rid of that and the 5er.
Currently our 2017 Phaeton has ISL 380HP Cummins, DEF.

Still missing my truck but it’s getting easier. [emoji20]

depends on the mfg...
both my 2012 and 2013 ford trucks had def and regens (although I rarely saw the regens) AND SCR systems (Selective Catalytic Reduction)

Our 2011 cummins does not use def and part of the reason I bought it

All are bad attempts by the epa to control things and all reduce the efficiency of the engines.

My 2011 has the regen system but no def. Probably a left over engine that didn't fall under those regulations.
